Egh...all the classes look fun. Not sure which I want to play. In the first one I had an easy choice going sniper, but Zer0 looks fun to play as melee too.

Kinda leaning towards Gunzerker after looking at those trees

I didn't play Gunzerker or Siren past lvl 5 in B1. Hated their special skills. I will say they look far more appealing now. I've already made up my mind to go with Siren first. I think I like Cataclysm branch the most but I'm gonna have to try this in the Motion branch:
"Thoughtlock: Phaselock causes enemies to turn on their friends."

Zer0's skill tree looks awesome, but it seems so wrong to focus on melee in a game with a billion guns

fastest way to try a billion guns? use two at once. Its the gunzerker for me

I may well get both. Play the console when I want the big screen, and pc when I want to play it in places or rooms where there's no console.

Are you able to play co-op with more than two players, including multiple people on the same console? xbox, if that matters.

That is, I want to play with my roommate (so same console/TV) and a friend online at the same time - possible?

And how does the game handle people being at different levels? If I'm a level 30 and my friend is level 10, will I just do way more damage than him or is there something to balance it out? In Borderlands 1 my roommate and I only played co-op together so being at different levels was never an issue.

Whoever hosts (invites the others) determines the level of the enemies. If your friend hosts as a 10 and you join as a 30, you will easily demolish enemies. If you host and he joins, he will get murdered.

10-30 is extreme. 10-15 is not so bad. If the 10 hosts, the 15 will hardly level up (if at all) until the 10 catches up. If the 15 hosts, the 10 will level up very quickly. The way XP works is that you get points for causing damage individually, but when an enemy is killed everyone gets a big chunk of XP. So if you're a lower level than a host and can't even do damage, you'll still level up quickly standing off to the side because you'll get the chunks of XP every time someone else makes a kill.

Great, thanks for the detailed response. Is that simultaneous split screen and online coop possible in Borderlands 1?

I think it's new. BL1 you could do split screen or x4 online but not combine.

every time this thread gets bumped, i find myself hoping it's someone saying the game leaked online early (even though i pre-ordered already)

Who are you guys going to play as? I'm thinking of either Zero with a focus on sniping and some cunning or Maya as a healer with harmony and some motion.

Play 1 before 2 comes out? or not overly important? I'm not particularly time rich at the moment. 2 looks fantastic, and I just know that if it reviews really well, then I'm probably gonna want it, but not if I'm going to be getting confused. Also, has 1 aged well? I know, I know, I should be focused on the gameplay, not graphics, physics etc... but hey, I like shiny new things

If you don't play Borderlands, you won't be at a huge disadvantage in Borderlands 2 in terms of plot, but you'll have missed out on playing a truly great game. Borderlands is an insane amount of fun. You should snap buy the GOTY edition.

If you're on PS3 and have PS+ they're giving BL1 away free (without DLC's obv). I downloaded it a few days ago I'm enjoying it enough that I pre-ordered 2 just because I know it will be a lot more fun playing with friends on co-op.

You can't just say something like that without posting the song.
