In some ways it resonates with me, since I'm even noobier than he - coming in cold with no experience whatsoever of *Souls - it was certainly brutal for the first couple hours, before I found a gate or two to open and discovered it is not strictly necessary to engage every enemy you see. I also got one hell of a lot better at knowing how to use my battle axe, which he doesn't comment on whatsoever. On the other hand, it's tilting as hell by being factually inaccurate. Well, not exactly. But naive at the least. One of his major complaints is that it takes 15 minutes and countless enemies to re-attempt Cleric Beast. Admittedly it does, if you're doing it wrong. I need to kill one person I think maybe two. And one ogre type thing. 30 seconds at most and I'm there, from the central Yarnham lantern spawn, if I want to be.
The good news for Dan Stapleton is that pretty much every other game in existence is designed to suit his power fantasy needs. I suppose he wants something more like this:
The guy didn't wait 12 hours to come to this conclusion. He bitched and moaned for two days on twitter before writing this. There's a big difference between saying, "I wish it were like this" and, "This is stupid. They should do it like this." There is a reason for all of their design decisions. For almost everyone who perseveres long enough, the picture becomes clear, and most, if not all, of the things that they questioned in the beginning, they come around to understand and even like. I've seen it happen time and time again with people new to the souls series.
