I have almost completed all of the normal characters, just bethany and jacon & esau with two marks each left, I'll work on tainted characters right after I'm done (or maybe after remaining two challenges that I unlocked in the process), taking it quite slow but 0 signs of burnout thanks to that

my last regular check mark is surprisingly mega satan on J&E, jesus christ I've had so many frustrating runs already, I did not hate this character but I find it surprisingly hard to get MS off the list

what are your thoughts about tainted cain?

well, the reason for asking is that it feels like work and not fun like any other character...

getting a run with tainted lazarus seems really tough, just tried to attempt beast as my first checkmark with knife on one and ipecac on the other but I blew myself up :< so still no checkmarks on this toon, jesus.

I'm doing random and learning chars on the go - if I unlock at least one checkmark I random again if not I retry. However I'm slightly fed up with him since it's like 10 unsuccessful runs...

I think I'm enjoying Tainted Lost even though getting one checkmark seems hard for me. Now I've had a super promising run where I had mr. me getting all the stuff for me, found the blank card in 2nd shop or so, another holy card on floor 1 so that I had it active so far and carrying a spare one and I had lil portal but had no experience using it... After caves 1 boss I tried to steal devil deal with mr. me again to preserve my angel room chances and at the same time I let lil portal eat two hearts and it spawned a portal which I entered shortly after (mind you I had also xray vision so not sure what I was expecting) and I got ported to curse room...

I panicked seeing 6 red fires, got hit by one and realised it used my holy card charge and I'm like what the hell what did I do?! Mind you, I also had holy card on the floor in another room, but since I used reverse chariot card for the boss it wasn't there when I needed.

This run felt like Spelunky in Isaac.

Man, it's amazing how many OP runs go to waste on Tainted Lost. JFC...

been playing a little bit more lately, does anyone else think the game is nearly impossible to "break" now?

yeah, I'm having hard time pushing for 100% for the first time ever, I completed most upper half unlocks for tainted characters but having hard time continuing as I get annoyed more easily. Feels more tedious now. I think I don't have anything unlocked for T. Jacob for example. The only character with easy game breaking mechanics is T. Cain but I haven't played him in a long time and again just unlocked the upper half... feels so tedious and not fun.

I also went 100% on every iteration of Isaac up until Repentance which felt like a big part of the fun-factor had been removed.

I wasn't even one of those people who would actively try to break every run, but the simple fact that I knew getting double Steam Sales or a Blank Card/Jera was possible kept me at least hopeful on every run and grinding away.

"Tedious" nails it, imo.

You're supposed to only play him twice, 2 hours in Greed mode and 4 hours on Hard (hopefully nailing the 50/50 with Mega Satan). You craft the R key and finish the run by killing the Beast.

yeah pretty much this, i am a completionist only when it comes to isaac but i wont be im pretty sure for this last one, i can do it with everyone but i really hate jacob and esau and just cant used to playing them.

Well, a few weeks ago I was sick and I started having fun again slowly grinding the completion marks. I started playing characters in order this time. Tainted Lost was by far the hardest but I worked on him also in order so I had to tackle him around middle of the pack. Tainted Cain as somebody mentioned is not that bad - it requires actually less work than other characters - it's just different playstyle so it's not as bad as I thought it is. November 2021 changes to Tainted Jacob and Tainted Lazarus made also these characters really strong and fun.

I take my initial criticism back. I think Isaac was often flawed in some way on release and patched up over the months to a game it's supposed to be. You're supposed to play this game over years though, otherwise you'll burn yourself out.

And yeah, implementation of Tainted Characters that's some masterwork in game design imo. They doubled size of the game by a gimmick but by introducing really interesting characters and playstyles.

I'm happy I won't touch Isaac again though. Mark as favourite and uninstall.

congratulations man, i tried again and again but i just dont have the capability to manage jacob and esau ive cleared everything else but havent even got a mom kill with them
