Oh, I did one worse than that one time. The door spawned right while I was moving - I got a glimpse of the item (damage upgrade) and saw a devil room door. Just a glimpse, all for naught.
That one really hurt, I ended up dying in Sheol before I got to Satan and I have to think the damage upgrade plus whatever I could have gotten out of the Devil Room might have made the difference.
But yeah, seeing the rock while falling through the floor was pretty cringe worthy. Still, my own fault, I just wasn't paying attention to exactly where I was on the floor. The game giving me dead dove, crashing, then respawning holy water just felt like a giant middle finger, and this one wasn't my fault. That's what made me so angry. Like, I'm a huge dumbass and wasn't paying attention to the floor and drop down before grabbing something, that's obviously my fault. The game crashing and respawning a new and completely inferior item....just **** you. Give me back my goddamn dead dove you sonuvabitch.
I realize no one here cares and that every one probably has identical sob stories but that was the closest I've come to quitting mid run.
dont quit mid run if you are weak.
best way to learn is working with what you get and dodge well.
patience is key.
explore floors entirely and abuse shops and every machine you find.
Think of Lars who has 500 win streak with Eden... some of the runs are really horrible and yet he makes it work. Figuring out how to beat a run using what the game is giving you is part of the learning process and fun.
For some reason I find Issac far harder than Satan.
Fortunately my last couple of strong runs I've also managed to snag a full health pill or card to pop during the Issac battle. I have a hard time seeing the white bullets. That combined with still being bad at dodging makes for some loltastic times.
I've switched to hard mode and beaten the chest on hard, still have to do the dark room.
And of course, Mega Satan. I could have attempted him the hard run I beat Blue Baby, but my HP was in the toilet after BB and I wasn't nearly OP enough to make a run; I was sort of shocked I cleared the chest as it was.
Decided to mix it up from trying to grind for a hard Lamb win with Issac. Beat two challenges (both first try! Darkness Falls and Cat Got Your Tongue) and opened some new Judas items, mostly to practice with a low health character. Put it back on normal mode, though.
Based on what I had read about the cat challenge I was expecting it to be difficult, but I love playing as Guppy so I gave it a shot. Picked up Little Steven first floor, picked up Lil Brimstone second floor. That helped immensely.
Looked up easiest challenges and cleared Slow Roll and Computer Savvy today. Got close to unlocking the D6, but died in the Chest before I could get to Issac. Man characters without replenishable health are hard for me. I'm better at dodging but still not great.
Downloaded this on my 3DS for when I want to play outside the home.
Have already matched my win streak on the main console (2, but still) and beaten boss rush with Issac, something I have yet to do with any character on the console. Until recently, I hadn't even seen boss rush. I've only seen it twice on my main file and never beaten it.
It's funny how much easier the game seems when you know the patterns right off the get go. My losing streak was three figures before I beat Mom for the first time on my main file, I knew nothing about the game and it took a while before I knew what enemies were going to do what (and what items did what, and which to avoid like the plague). On the 3DS, I beat it first run. I think my win percentage on the handheld is like 50%, while it's gotta be like 1% on the console. Sample size is much smaller on the handheld, of course. And right now runs end at Mom's heart, so winning is much easier ldo.
I realize no one cares, I just thought it was funny.
I'm pretty sure I didn't get through the first floor in my first run in the original game. I played like 40 minutes and then gave up for like a year and a half.
the biggest thing for me was learning all the new items, also the fact you couldnt let hearts go off the screen was a major learning curve, now its just natural
I finally went back to my PS4 Rebirth and finished off all the Lost stuff that seemed so unsurmountable say 800 hours or so (of Isaac) ago. Fiddling around with Isaac and the D6 got me the necessary item touches and a Book of Revelations start that gave me the Super Meat Boy unlock.
I saved a video of me beating Boss Rush as The Lost:
Items: Dead Cat, Holy Mantle, Tech 2 (lol but like the range as the Lost), BFFS!, Daddy Longlegs, Guppy transformation, Polyphemus (on Boss Rush) and a few dmg/dps-ups
Daddy Longlegs with BFFS! is super strong and they were unanimously dubbed co-MVPs of the run.
Not a very interesting video with a pause just before the rush starts to get Shareplay going for a friend. The Boss Rush itself was almost a breeze and the Mantle wasn't even needed. The highlights were:
*Almost died all my nine lives against The Fallen at the start of the clip. The Lost is a bit slow and those bastards rush you down. Things really picked up after that.
*A very clutch Lump of Coal pick-up fighting Krampus after Mom's foot and making it to Boss Rush with 5 seconds to spare.
