3 is the better game without doubt, but I’d have taken the original first since it was so groundbreaking and is still a great game in its own right.

I prob won’t make any more picks btw.

I'll take a game that probably would have been top 10 material if not for the

WAH WAH WAH WAH WAH WAH WAH

Once you can get past the crying baby in the background for half the game, this game is a masterclass in 2D Platforming. The egg shot mechanics bring a whole new level of creativity and skill cap to the game. One of my favorite speedrunning games of all time.

Sure.

Quick question, though. Is this just for home video games (console, PC, etc.) or do arcade games count?

I think it's up to the drafter what they think a video game is. I assume arcade games are 100% a video game to everyone here

Re: Best Video Games of all time Draft

I have a few games that I feel should have gone already, but considering the question I just asked, it's probably obvious what I'm about to pick and everyone should be absolutely ashamed that this didn't go in the first round.

Spoiler:

With McGlaven's 7th round pick, the 7th overall selection, dlk9s selects:

Spoiler:

Pac-Man is arguably the most important video game of all-time and is easily up there in the discussion for the greatest video game of all-time. Introduced in 1980, it demolished all expectations and jump-started the video game industry in the United States.

In a respect, it is a lot like Tetris in that it is essentially the perfect video game. It is exceedingly simple to understand - anyone can figure out what to do in a matter of seconds - yet to be great at it, you need a combination of fast-twitch reflexes, the ability to see the entire board at once, and the ability to see several steps ahead. It is one of those games that people continue to play because they are always sure they can do better than their last game. It is a game that looks beatable, but for all but a handful of people, it's far from it.

Pac-Man brought women into the video game fold, as the lack of violence was appealing. In fact, it was estimated that more women played it than men.

Within 18 months of its initial release, Pac-Man had sold $1 billion worth of machines. Twin Galaxies estimate that by the end of last century, 10 billion quarters had been fed into Pac-Man arcade machines.

Leaning on Wikipedia a bit here:

Pac-Man was the first video game to have power-ups
Pac-Man was possibly the first video game to have cut scenes
Pac-Man was an early precursor (is that redundant?) of the stealth game genre
Pac-Man was an early form of AI with its ghosts
Pac-Man was the first video game mascot

Pac-Man also gave us the concept of the kill screen in early arcade games.

Pac-Man was one of the big reasons the Atari 2600 went gangbusters in the early 1980's, as kids and their parents were in awe of the notion that they could have Pac-Man in their home. Granted, the port was terrible (which I didn't realize at the time - I loved it), but that's not a knock on the OG.

The game is stamped into popular culture. Everyone knows Pac-Man, everyone knows the game's sounds. Kids love it. Adults love it. It is one of the most successful games of all time and has spawned tons of copy-cats.

It has also spawned tons of official sequels, spin-offs, and variations, many of which are really good. The most notable is clearly the game's follow-up Ms. Pac-Man. I debated about this one, actually, as Ms. Pac-Man is obviously a better game than Pac-Man, but I gave the original the nod for being the groundbreaker. I most cases, I give huge points for being the first.

I'm also going back to the 80's - too late for a full write up now, but I take:
