My 9-year old tried to get my wife interested in Xbox the other day, so the game he popped in was Burnout 3.

They were playing it on an Xbox 360 with backwards compatibility. I have two OG Xboxes (mine and a friend's), but they are both broken. Apparently there is some known flaw where a capacitor or something leaks, corroding some leads inside. I really want to play it again because there are some games that aren't backwards compatible. I can buy one for like $40 from a local retro video game store (actually, IIRC, it would only be $30 since I wouldn't need the cables), but I may try to learn how to solder so I can attempt to fix them. Might be a fun project.

By the way, my wife knew so little about video games two decades ago that when she bought me an OG Xbox for my birthday, she thought it was called an "X - B - O - X."

While doing research for some of the games, I found this awesome youtube channel called Noclip which produces documentaries on the making of video games. All of the ones I've watched have been interesting.

The best one I've seen so far was about the founder of CD Projekt Red, who makes the Witcher series. It's pretty amazing what kids in communist countries used to go through just to get video games.

Pretty much saved the video game industry after the crash, launched the biggest gaming franchise of all time, revolutionised the platform genre and is still legit fun to play to this day. It’s ridiculous how tight the controls are compared to other games at the time. Not so bad indeed.

Zimmer is busy planning a wedding. Pretty sure thread is dead but I’m happy to keep making picks if people continue.

I almost took SMB #9 but took 3 because it’s just the more complete game and innovated so much beyond the first one. However I’m pretty sure I’ve spent the last 30 years chasing the dragon, trying to recreate the feeling I had the first time I saw SMB.
