I've been wondering if there is any way to hack a SNES cartridge and find out where the lunkers are at any given time in the game. I can catch all fish except the monster that rarely appears. Its at least 22 lbs...and I can't ever wear it down enough to reel it in. It appears randomly...and its seldom seen.

I need an easier way to find this fish...and a strategy to catch it. I've tried everything and it always breaks my fishing rod after taking whatever lure I'm using.

The problem is...I'm in a bet to see who can catch the most lbs. of fish in the 4th lake of the game this week. Its a 5 fish total which I have managed to catch 95 lbs. to my competition's 97 lbs. while we were goofing off last week. If I can catch the monster bass...I'll win it by 3 or 4 lbs. provided the rest of my stringer is 19 lbs. + a piece.

I'm obsessed with winning this.

Somehow the subject of this game came up weeks ago and we started mouthing off about how awesome we were at it when we were kids...which became this challenge. It started yesterday and I have until Sunday to catch the perfect stringer...which is what its going to take to win it now that the villian has 97 lbs.

I've got most of the quirks of the game down, but I can't catch and I rarely find the elusive monster bass that will put me over the top. If you move...it disappears from that location. If anything spooks it...it won't bite. You can't "lead it in" to within 30 ft or it loses interest. Its really getting irritating.

It's not even close honestly

EDIT: Checking GameFAQ's to answer your question, it seems the bridges are the best place to look for the monster bass, though I don't know if that means the 22lb monster or just the standard 19 pound fish

Already checked that and everywhere else online. There is very little information about the game and virtually none on how to catch the monster bass.

Yeah..Steve I'm aware of the bridges. Its not just finding this bass. I'm trying to figure out the strategy to catch it. The fish's stamina never drops below yellow even after 45 minutes of fighting with it. I can't pull down on the rod without the line breaking and after a lengthy fight it'll just snap my rod without a line warning. FWIW..I can catch 19 lb/20 lb fish with ease.

This thing is a demon. It wears out my stamina quick, takes my lures, and I cannot reel it within 20 feet of me. Most of the time, it'll just drag the line out to 80 ft and roll in circles. When it does that...its game over. You can't sway it or pull it more than a couple feet without it freaking out.

Are you sure it's even catchable? It might just be a built in fish story so players can always talk about the big one that got away. Hmmm...

so catch 3 or more 20 lb. fish, and 2 19 lb. fish and that's 98 lbs. > 97 you are trying to get. Seems like the 22 lb fish is just too stupidly hard to grab, especially given the time you are putting into this.

Also Jacob is a bass fishing game n00b obv

Lol, I think we can ignore Insane_Steve here, he obviously doesn't know what he's talking about. Jimmy Houston's Bass tournament? Next thing you know he's going to be recomending Mark Davis Pro Bass challenge.....

Well...most are 19 lbs. The key so far has been to be persistant until I catch the fish that are 19.82 lbs. instead of 19.04 or something.

Its that close.

My opponent is going to catch around there and could catch close to 100 lbs. if he "runs good." - in this case..meaning that he finds the lunkers, gets them to bite, and has good weather during most of the tournament. He's still got the rest of this week as well and the reason I'm trying to catch this is bc it will be a sure win if I do.

THIS.

The last time it broke my fishing rod...I slammed my controller hard enough on the wood floor that it bounced about a foot off the surface. Not good...because its my last working controller. I managed to rip out the start button on the 2nd controller a few weeks ago and it barely does anything.

I started off this afternoon with a clear mind when I loaded up the 4th and final lake. The game clock for every tournament runs from 7:00 - 4:30 which i think is around 4-5 hours real time.

My obvious strategy now is to immediately try to find the demon bass and catch him as quick as possible...since I estimate it could take close to an hour the way things are going. If I catch him...then I immediately go for all the 19 lb. fish that I can real in easily.

I luckily found him in the first 10 minutes slumming around the dump and used the natural crankbait (which is pretty much irresistable to all fish in the game) to hook him. He took that, my bright crankbait, both minnows, and snapped my rod again after a combined 55 minute battle. He wouldn't bite after that.

I feel terrible...I'm on anti-biotics for my tonsils and I'm pretty close to breaking several things in my apartment. I've got to catch this f'n fish.

Seeing as I have 4 days left, I'm going to try to contact someone who used to work at or is affiliated with Hot-B for possible information. (The makers of the game)

Since you will obviously kill yourself if you don't win and you will be the VG forum's version of Brandi, I endorse cheating in this case.

Debug Mode
Hold X + Y on controller one, A + B on controller two, and turn on the SNES. The words ''Debug Mode'' will appear on the screen. Begin a game and use these commands while in the game:

To catch a lunker starts at 21.8 lbs gradually declins by .2 lbs for everyone caught after, press Up on controller two.

So if the bet is who is better at the game, and you have to cheat to win the bet, doesn't that mean you lose?

But we have the makings of a great turn to the dark side montage as OP struggles not to enter the cheat code.

I know all of this stuff. My opponent knows the debug mode as well and neither of us will use it. It would be fairly obvious if I did use it, because the weight declines by .2 lbs for each fish caught. Everything you find online through FAQS I know already. My only line left is to get lucky and run into someone in a forum that knows how to catch it.

I'm not going to cheat. I'm wanting information on where to find the monster bass easier and how to catch it.

We play the last 2 tournaments of the game in Bronze Lake and Bluestone Lake. You can play as many times as possible during the seven day period in attempt to get as many lbs. of fish as possible. It will be the best combined total of all 5 fish in livewell for that week. Cell phone picture of the tournament finish screen will be taken as proof.

I already sat down the first day and locked up Bronze Lake with 52.86 lbs.
My opponent is weak at Lake 3, and I don't see myself catching better...so I consider it done.

Lake 4 though...I'm stressing to catch at least 98 lbs which may not be good. Its not easy to come across a game where you run hot enough to catch that much. Most of the time, I can catch 60-70 lbs. + in the first 2 hrs. (which wins the tourney) and then I'm hit with a pattern of 11 lb. and 12 lb. fish everywhere I go until the weigh-in.

Heres what happened:
The bet gets made and we both start practicing. During a couple of weeks, I send a picture of 75 lbs. to him just to get a gauge. He replies a day or so later with 83 lbs. which he is "proud of."

So...I wait until Saturday (The day before the match starts) and I go on a crazy run where I catch 95 lbs. of fish with an hour left to spare. I decide to take a picture of it and send it....thinking that he'll want to just buy out of the bet and I can go on to the next thing.

He sends me a text back saying "****..man that's ridiculous!"

I think I've just blown him out of the water, but about 10 minutes later he sends a picture he took days ago of him catching 97 lbs.

SO.

The bar has been raised about as high as it can go...and the only edge I have left is if I can catch the elusive monster bass that neither of us have been able to catch. It's either that or I play for hours hoping the next fish I catch is 19.80 lbs. instead of 19.04 lbs. It will take five of those that are almost 20 lbs. to win outright and that is very difficult to do as well. It takes alot of time and luck.

Again...this bet is for 2 lakes.
I think I've got the 3rd won, but I want to scoop both.
