I would say watch OOT any%, Doom runs(if you have played those games you will think he is playing another game since he somehow is able to jump going against corners in a fast way etc), VVVVVV was insane as well, he did veni vidi vici first try. F-Zero,Monkey ball and those super tight games area always sick as well. And sinister1 always delivers with his runs, so his Ninja Gaiden 1/2,Batman,MTPO are all good. dram55 and his SMW 96 exit is hilariously optimized as well.

My favorite speedrunners are sinister1, duckfist, dram55, Cosmo, Siglemic, funkdoc . you can always trust those guys to beast

Maybe not impressive per se, but I like watching people playing games that I played casually and really liked. It's really interesting to me to watch someone speedrun a game like and that and seeing how they break the game or if they're just godlike at it. I watched a speedrun of Diddy Kong Racing during the Hurricane Sandython marathon a couple months ago and it was insane how good the guy was at the game. I'm sitting here thinking "I thought I was good at that game, LOL NOPE". Same thing when I watch Stivitybobo play Banjo-Kazooie (one of my top 5 favorite games OAT).

yeah this is the reason big games like SM64 and OOT always brings in the insane viewers. Cause people played them so much as kids, and thats the generation that is dominating on the internets right now. But myself I am partial to the INSANE polished NES runs that beasts like sinister1,duckfist,funkdoc puts out. Also I am so ****ing old that I grew up with those games

Disappointed they didnt show off my favorite easter egg of all time. At the end credits of FF9 there is a random code you can put in to play blackjack.

How do you "figure out" those gamebreaking glitches (like in OOT)? I mean I get his explanation of why it happened, but how do you figure out what specific combination of inputs/pixel situations would get you the glitch? I mean most of the glitches (not just the ganondorf skip but some of the get through the wall stuff) is specific to like 1-2 frames. Do they really sit there and try every permutation of frames/movements? (like he did some combination of right dashes and backflips to activate the cutscene glitch). I feel like they had to have looked at the game code but I'm not sure how you could look at code and figure out where the glitch would occur.

There is a huge number of people trying to run OOT, and yeah they learn how to break it in one way by accident and then they try that same way on different places until they get it. All the jumps etc before is just to line it up more easily. And this is not something that has happened over night, it has been a evolution for over 10 years with people constantly playing it.

watched the any% OOT run, runners (cosmo) commentary was really fantastic and some of that history is amazing.

^ Cosmo's commentary is unbelievable. As a speedrunner I have no idea how he can get WR runs while commentating like that. Now you can understand why everyone was deservedly hating on Mirrored. Because Mirrored's commentary is ***** and Cosmo's is awesome. And Mirrored wasn't letting Cosmo talk at all (during the WW run.)

Regarding game breaking glitches, over time, you learn how the games are put together. You accidentally learn one thing, somewhere, and wonder if it works somewhere else. You try a bit, test a bit. TASers (tool assisted speedrunners - guys who use emulators specifically to exploit things in the game) are huge keys since they can actually do frame perfect inputs over and over and test stuff way more easily than console players.

Having other items on the B button in OOT has been known since like 2001, maybe earlier. And they only figured out wrong warping in like 2011. It takes a long time and a lot of testing and a lot of random accidents.
