damn 1200 people!
I had no idea there were that many, the previous streams had an empty room most of the time.
how many attendant last year?
In 2014 the cap was in the 900s, in 2015 the cap was in the 1200s, this year it's probably a little more.
The marathon room is empty most of the time. The off camera rooms are where all the action happens, like this moment we captured last year:
It's a shame they don't show more of the backrooms since this is where most of your favourite speedrunners are hanging out and frankly where the event actually takes place. The stream is generally irrelevant to the attendees for the most part. Like, between midnight-6am there is no one in the marathon room and everyone is either in hotel rooms partying, or in the casual, tournament, etc rooms.. well partying and gaming.

No kidding. Glad I'm not the only one who isn't blind and can see this. A completely irrelevant indie game, primetime two AGDQs in a row? And everyone on r/speedrun is talking about how brilliant the run was. I feel like there is quite obvious paid shilling going on and the devs really are spending big to push the game. Shame no one cares enough to call them out on this.
Do you think any of the money paid for this slot is going to charity? Who the hell knows.
A solution would seem to be for the gamers to take the power back into their own hands again. Find a charity you can all agree on and organise your own marathons where you only show the games you want to show, rally the troops WG!
Also, if you're having problems getting shut down on SDA or wherever, I don't see why 2+2 can't provide the platform where you guys can discuss this sort of thing.
At the end of the day I don't think games done quick is a charity, and they would be far from the first for-profit company to make money by fundraising for non profits.
Obviously the solution is to start your own, but I imagine there is a lot more work going on behind the scenes then the speed runners imagine, and the person that goes through the work will also want to be paid for their work. But it really wouldn't take many top runners to migrate to create a decent marathon quickly.

I'm guessing this Vendetta arcade run is an example of SDA letting their friends in. He said "it's not a speedrun or a 1CC, it's a combination of both". WTF.
so are there any must see runs yet? literally watched zero minutes, was only going to watch the batman race but forgot it was today because everything else is terrible or badly scheduled
