I got in on launch day, but haven't had much time to play. I wish they wouldn't force you into claiming your items before you can actually draft. They should at least allow players access to the casual free drafts without having to claim items and give up the option to ask for a refund.

I still have my cards and tickets unclaimed. I played the tutorials, 1 Call to Arms game (lost), and one bot game (won). I'm pretty clueless on the cards. I feel like I don't have enough time to read what a card does and think about whether I want to play it or save it for another lane.

There were a couple times where my play countdown timer went 3-2-skip. Feels like the timer is off by a second.

I'll probably just keep the game anyway since $20 isn't going to break me, but it still feels wrong to not have access to the game like that.

My first 5-1 draft. Didn't feel that great, but it was often able to sneak in final damage without opponent being able to really do much.

i think you can decide to not open the starter pack and just play free drafts, think i mentionned that at the end of first page.

No the drafts unlock only after you accept the stuff and sign the agreement.

Yeah, anything other than the Call To Arms and Bot matches were behind the requirement to claim the items. I ended up claiming them since, realistically, I'm probably not going to refund the game.

I fully believe that the game will develop more in the future. Dota 2 today is not what it was when it first released. I was under the understanding that I could not claim the items and still play the free drafts. I figured that was added to give people the opportunity to play the game and decide if they wanted to keep it.

So far I only opened one pack and got 1 rare. I'm stuck behind the wait on the steam marketplace because I don't have the authentication set up.

There probably isn't any reason to hold onto the packs. I probably won't be playing the Keeper Drafts any time soon.

What is the best play with Drow? Is it only worth keeping if I'm going to play Constructed? Is it even worth playing Constructed?

I can't really sell the card right now because of the delay. But even so, it'll just turn into Steambucks.

So what's the optimal play here?

First Casual Draft, I really don't know what I'm doing. 1-0 so far. Opponent disconnected. :-/

You're only allowed one hero per pack, you draft from 5 packs so you get 1 hero from the first 6 picks, one hero from the second 6 picks etc. You're guaranteed to get a hero in the last 2 cards of a pack if you haven't picked one up yet but hero (and card) quality will generally get worse towards the end of a pack as other players pick the better options.

Unless I did something horribly wrong, at no point is that explained before your first draft, nothing about your option to swap them out for the default heroes at the end either. All it takes is a random pop up tutorial before your first draft.

Afaict there's no real resource to answer the endless amount of questions that arise when you go into it completely blind. Bot tutorial didn't even explain the concept of initiative, if you want to know how the arrows work then google for obscure reddit threads.

Yeah I think they're relying on twitch/youtube to do the bulk of their teaching for them. I appreciated not being made to go through all the basics as I assumed it would take ages but an optional extended basics tutorial would be good.

If you're looking for basics these videos are fairly decent.

Here's the arrows one though for some reason he doesn't specify the percentages. They're 25% to left, 25% to go right and 50% to go straight ahead.

Didn't mean to sound so pissy, if they literally just took those short videos they've already produced and made them accessible after the bot tutorial within the game then that would help a lot of noobs out. I like having this stuff accessible in the game as constant alt+tabbing messes with my vibe, if you've ever played Civilization then you're probably familiar with the "Civilopedia" so I was thinking something like that. I suspect a there might be a bunch of people who won't ever open the game after their first few tries but not really my problem I guess. It just gets infinitely better the more you start to understand it.

My play of the day: Confusing Iron Fog Goldmine(3 mana black turret thing: "Get 3 gold after the combat phase") with Payday(3 mana black spell: "double your gold") and playing the latter as the very first card in the game and doubling my gold from zero to zero.

yeah combat phase is when **** hits each other. most cards are pretty clear if you read carefully but you just have to get used to keywords like action phase, combat phase, deployment, etc.

And to what you were talking about yeah Valve has always been terrible at introducing new players to the mechanics of the game, same thing in dota 2. They focus a lot of pro gaming and I respect that but they really drop the ball (or dont care?) about the new player experience.

In mobas its more fine cause new blood is extremely rare.

holy **** i just made a Keeper draft without a rare hero and I still made like 20$ cause of all the rares i drafted (annihilation, unearthed secrets, spring the trap, the oath, etc).

And it still turned out amazing

In a development that surprises absolutely no one - the Chinese really, really love the lock mechanic. Something like 40% of my games have been against them and they must pick those cards every time they're offered.

How do I tell whether it is the first or second tower and what do the arrows do?

2nd towers look different, they are more glowy and have a different symbol in the overview on the top left.

Arrows tell you where a unit attacks. It's a 50% chance to go straight and 25% for either side but a unit will always attack straight if there's an enemy unit in front of it.

Maybe interesting deck building question.

Problem is it feels like the Mazzie isn't really doing too much, seems to be pretty decent at stalling sometimes with his body + signature card. Haven't drawn into the impact red cards a lot though tbf. I'm considering switching him for a 2nd Farvhan, making my deck look like this https://www.playartifact.com/d/ADCJc...cCHqYBGyMBBg__.

Would be removing Hellbear Crippler, Red Mist Pillager, Ogre Conscript, Omexe Arena and Mazzie for a 4th and 5th Rumusque Blessing, 3rd Arm the Rebellion, Intimidation and Farvhan. I think the red cards + hero are better since since I'm already running 3 Rumusque and 2 Arm the Rebellions but 3rd green hero might give me more consistency in usable cards.

(I have Juke, Bellow, Restoration Effort, Corrosive Mist and another Intimidation sitting on the bench for green)

farvhan is pretty good with ur ton of green buffs but sadly you dont have many of the black dmg buffs so it seems really close (ladders from sorla, oath, more nevermores, etc)

id probly farvhan just cause u got lycan as ur 3rd to dmg buff farvhans defenders
