FWIW those markings even move to take elevation and angle into account, so they are always right for the distance.

Yeah it's nice that the scopes are actually pretty user friendly. They also give you the range.

I agree that sniper rifles are not as OP in this game as in most, and I'm pretty happy about this. A lot of fights in PUBG become very lopsided if one side has one or more one-shot-kill rifles because you can't peek at all.

Actually that's another thing - almost all the map in Apex Legends is set up so that you are very rarely truly pinned down. There are always flanking and escape routes, not that much open ground to cover. In PUBG there are lots of places where escape is difficult to impossible.

Also I am enjoying that the death zone is not really as big of an issue in this game. Yes, it still keeps you moving to the center, but it's pretty rare that you get caught in it and I have gone many many matches without taking damage from it.

I'm still terrible and still haven't won a match, but I get a kick out of surviving by myself. I played a couple matches yesterday and my teammates disconnected early. I took a balloon to the zone and hid on top of a building for like 10-15 minutes before I finally had to make a move to the final circle and got gunned down. Came in 3rd. If I was Bangalore, I might've had a fighting chance.

I’d rather play with a good squad but agree that I have fun just slinking around the map and trying to stay alive. Had a match the other day where both my teammates got killed while the ring was closing. I killed our opponent but had to run into the the ring to heal...right below another fire fight. I managed to hide without being seen, then ran back out of the ring to get their banners, used a med kit just before dying from the ring damage, rode a balloon to safety, got into a 1v1 vs a Gibraltar that I had to escape from, respawned both my teammates while hiding from the Gibraltar, sprinted as the ring was closing and grabbed a Kraber from a care package...only to have all three of us get killed. The crazy moments you can create in this game are just so much fun and so memorable.

Most of my favorite games are when 1-2 team members get respawned, you're all running around with low loot trying to pick your battles, and you end up doing better than you'd "expect"

Winning is nice too.

If you have people you like to play with, or play with randos, dedicate some time to doing hot drops. Take early fights with low gear. You definitely learn fast from it. If you drop to a remote area and then stay away from fights, you can last a long time, but eventually you have to fight, and will usually be facing teams that are good at it. If your usual game is "play 15 minutes and then die in a fight in 3rd place" then it takes a LONG time to learn lessons about fighting.

Watch how good streamers fight - by instinct they are always seeking cover or automatically backing off when they need to reload or heal. They move a lot even when they shoot or loot. They switch weapons instead of reloading in a pinch. They are sooooo good at using utility.

Another thing I try to do for myself is think of a goal for the day, something tactical that I can try to focus on. Like "for every engagement over 100 yards today, I am going to chuck grenades in first and plink at them 2nd" or "I am going to focusing trying to use my ult every time it's ready today" etc.

I consider myself pretty good at FPS games - I'm just bad at games like these. I think I'm just better on a team than by myself (though this is a team game, it's a small team). My strategy and teamwork is usually very good. I enjoy being a support-type player, rather than being the Alpha.

I think I'm having trouble aiming in this game (I tend to have trouble with snipers in Overwatch, too). I'm guessing its some combination of me needing to relax when the heat is on and possibly my PC not being up to spec as far as frames per second and monitor resolution (60 FPS at 1080p, but I think only 60hz - I'd have to check). Probably would help if I wasn't on wireless, but that tends to be fine.

It's probably more the former - I've had fire fights where I was missing point blank with a shotgun (in Apex, that is - I'm good in those situations in Overwatch, it's just snipers that I suck).

I’m glad to hear you say this because I think I have the same issue. I definitely wonder if internet connectivity and slight lag is the problem because sometimes my guns work exactly as I expect and I have no problem lighting people up and other times I am point blank and can’t seem to hit a thing. I’ve definitely gotten more comfortable using grenades, next I have to work on timing my utilities to be more efficient.

In general I’m not very good but I’m still having fun. Haven’t gotten a nice block to play in a few days so just playing with randos who are of course high variance. I don’t care if someone is bad but I don’t get these players who run off on their own or never pick up higher quality gear.

I've been stinking up the joint with aim. My sensitivity is set to 1.8 -- I'm on PC. I think it's just the firefights, I start going nuts and lose all sense of aim.

In regards you guys and aim: console or PC? ADS or hipfire?

I'm on PC. Hipfire is awful, you should ADS as often as possible. It becomes second nature. I prefer hold-to-ads instead of toggle-ads but different people have different opinons on that.

I have my sensitivity pretty low. It's hard to compare raw numbers because it's a factor of both the in-game setting and the DPI setting of your mouse. What I do is have a piece of paper that is exactly the right width so that if my mouse is at one end and I drag sideways to the other end I'll do an exact 360 degree turn. That way I can have the same effective sensitivity, which is really crucial.

I learned recently that Apex has a *very* long lag time between shots fired and registered compared to most FPS games. This can lead to hit registration oddities in theory, but I feel like it's mostly pretty good. They also do lag compensation so someone with bad lag will not be where you think they are - it's possible to get shot while behind cover because from your opponent's point of view, you haven't moved behind cover yet.

True about DPI. I normally use 2400 DPI, and I reduced in game sensitivity further to 1.5 and it was a bit improved.

I'm playing on PS4. It does feel like the bullets take longer to travel in this game than in most games I've played.

Last FPS I played was Overwatch, which uses Hitscan for a lot of its damage heroes, so that probably exacerbates the feeling of difference for me.

This still sounds pretty high to me. My turnaround distance is about 10 or 11 inches on the mouse pad - many pro gamers have sensitivities WAY lower than this. You end up moving your mouse a lot, but you have very precise controllable aim. You end up moving your whole arm for big moves and just the wrist for small ones.

There are some free programs that help with aim, I don't remember which ones I tried, but I found some on steam. You try to get your FOV and sensitivity settings the same and then try speed drills and accuracy drills and stuff. It help a bit I guess.

Also make sure that your ADS multiplier, or whatever they call it, is set to 1. I accdentally set mine higher and it really screws with you

I have not been playing a lot. Most of my friends prefer Battlefield V or PUB, and the few who play Apex have opposite schedules from mine. My origin name is upthread, if you see me on, feel free to send me an invite. If I don't respond I'm probably just not there.

Maybe it would be useful to put together a 2+2 gaming discord server or something?

Discord server for 2+2 would be really good, maybe make a separate thread so everyone can see it. Would do it myself but on the road, I could set one up tonight once I'm home.

Finally booked wins #2 and 3 in the last couple days.

R-301 Carbine easily my favorite gun in the game. Good rate of fire, almost no recoil.

I continue to find sniper rifles pretty useless for me. My normal setup is one Assault Rifle (R-301 preferred, Hemlok or Flatline are fine as well) and one Shotgun. Haven't really found a ton of difference between Peacekeeper and EVA-8.
