Watching shroud play is insane. I mean I know the guy is a world class CS player but he makes crazy play after play.

I updated my graphics drivers and I didn't have as many problems, but still experienced one freeze mid-game (fortunately we weren't in a fight) and then it crashed (disconnect from server, which might not have been my fault) when I was at the main menu. Seemed to run smoother than it was before, but it wasn't a long session. I also reduced a lot of the video quality options.

It's definitely a really cool game. I still suck miserably, but I watched a couple videos and I feel like I did better in the hour or so I played last night. I play way too tentatively - tend to let my teammates initiate. I did almost single-handedly save my team, but came up just short. Both my teammates got killed, one inside a building, one outside. I got flanked, but threw a grenade inside to down one enemy and somehow got away long enough to heal a little. Downed another guy in a 1-v-1, but the third guy finally got me after I did a bunch of damage to him. Too bad the knockdowns didn't count as kills. It was easily the best few seconds I have had in this game - I actually felt like I was doing something.

It's weird how different Overwatch feels when I jump back to it after an Apex game. I think one thing I like better about Overwatch is that it's easier for me to see the opposing players. I feel like in Apex, players blend into the surroundings more.

I'm curious to give the game a try. I was never interested in PUBG and I am not a fan of Fortnite's build mechanic. I wasn't a fan of the other knock-offs that popped up recently, either.

A lot of people who don’t really like Battle Royale enjoy this one.

Been playing a bunch more.

Still just the one win (in my first game) because I'm a terrible shot, but I really like the balance of the game.

There's a pretty steep learning curve until you learn what everything is and does, but once you get there it's much easier to manage inventory and upgrade your weapons.

I'm getting a little better. Had one nice sequence where I wiped out an opposing squad (basically just went HAM with a shotgun), but I still stink.

The game is so unstable for me, though. Maybe every other game it either freezes for about ten seconds or crashes. When those things aren't happening, it runs very smoothly. It very well could be my PC - it's just disappointing because I have no problems with any other game.

My first game last night, I was by myself. Managed to come in 12th. Landed without any other squads around me so I survived a while. As soon as I ran into someone, I died. Still haven't won a match, but came in second once or twice. Not that I had much to do with our success, but it was still cool.

It's funny - the last two times I've played, I switched over to Overwatch after I was done. Overwatch feels so much slower compared to Apex, particularly because you can't sprint unless you're Soldier. Once the match starts, it feels normal again, but at first, it's really odd.

I'm still trying to figure out the best landing spots when I'm Jumpmaster.

I usually Default to Airbase (far west) because there's rarely more than one squad and there's a ton of loot crates around.

I never really care as long as we're alone. I usually pass on being jump master, though the one time I did it last night was a total fail. We landed with another team, they got weapons first, and we got slaughtered. I saw them aiming toward the same zone too late to change course.

The last game I played, we landed at the Airbase alone and it was great.

I never really knew controls for jumping until I had a helpful teammate.

If you hold up on the left stick (not sure what corresponding key would be for PC people) then you fly way faster. Usually I just jump immediately and nosedive towards my target so I can make sure we're first on the ground if we are in an area with another squad.

I think if you’re playing with randoms or a weaker squad it’s safest to try and jump away from people and gear up since you’re at a disadvantage in a crowd (unless your communication is really good). Sometimes I’ll get with a really strong player on Discord and they are fine just jumping into the fray, wiping out a couple of teams, and hoarding all the strong gear, which gives you an early advantage. I’ve been on a few teams that won a bunch but it certainly wasn’t because of me, although I’m a fine support player. I’m about level 20 and still figuring out which legends I like, lately been mostly playing Bangalore or Pathfinder but I’ll take Lifeline if no one else does because she seems most essential.

I've never found any of the Legends' abilities to be all that useful.

Lifeline is def essential because of being able to hide behind cover and heal up during a firefight. That plus extra care packages makes her the most valuable.

Bloodhound's abilities never really seem that useful (not sure what his ultimate actually does after 10+ games with him)

Gibraltar is a net negative. Most often firefights come down to who sees who first and his shields get your team spotted easier.

Bangalore's ultimate is really useful because you can flush people out of their cover spot, but the rest of her kit is pretty useless.

Wraith's kit def seems to be useful for good players - which I am not, so I haven't really tried her out at all.

Bangalore’s passive is actually great, it doesn’t always come into play, especially not in face up firefights, but if someone spots you and takes aim it gives you an extra chance to get to cover. I’ve noticed her survivability seems just a pinch better than everyone else. Also I’ve seen people use the smoke to great effect but I’m not good with it.

Pathfinder’s zip line can be pretty awesome, gets you out of trouble or puts you in an advantageous position. His passive is also ok and grapple is fun.

I haven’t really messed with Bloodhound or Wraith at all.

Bloodhound's abilities aren't all that useful until they are, if that makes sense. His ultimate basically lets you go full aggro for 30 seconds. You move faster and can see enemies through smoke and stuff.

The key difference between this game and Overwatch from what I can tell is that most of OW's DPS heroes are hitscan while all bullets take a little time to travel in Apex.

It's def noticeable on sniper rifles where there's just a little lagtime between when you shoot and the hit registers.

Tiny sample, but today's patch may have helped my technical issues. I played three games and no freezes or crashes. Fingers crossed.

In the last game, we landed with another team and they got the weapons first. My teammates died, I escaped. I survived by myself for 4th place. One thing that it taught me is that I need better aim.

I've played two games so far. I just follow my teammates around and wait until we run into someone. I have no idea what I'm picking up. I'm literally clueless about the game other than find a gun, find some loot, and find someone to shoot at.

My recent game we took 3rd. Most of it was just the fact that we hung back and didn't really engage too much. I only have 1 kill.

I had some trouble playing with my son - apparently it doesn't work when you have 2 people on the same internal network. I researched a fix and tried it (turning uPnP off) and that sort of fixed it but then I would get discoed about every 3rd or 4th match. Which, I dunno, I assume is connected to my fix but maybe not, haven't played against since then.

Something about you can charge up a peacekeeper? Anyone done this?

Stuff is color coded by ammo type and rarity. You want higher level shields, helmet, backpack, and attachments whenever you can find them. Getting used to the weapons takes the most time - I’m finally figuring out what I prefer at level 20+. I like to have one short range weapon (peacekeeper, wingman, R-99 or whatever the light SMG is called) and one medium to long range (the Scout and 301 have both been good, still not as comfortable with the heavier stuff). I do think engaging some and trying to get other people’s gear is important to winning but honestly best to just go with your team’s flow.

Played a few games with randoms tonight and generally did well. I’m finally more comfortable in shootouts and can win them, not that I necessarily do so frequently. Starting to gravitate towards pathfinder, his ultimate is just so versatile and recovers quickly. Had one match where someone was shooting at us from tunnels by the north east structure (can’t remember what it’s called, east of the Airbase). I ziplined right overhead and popped her from behind before my squad came in and mopped up.

I love the Energy Weapons, but Energy Ammo is so damn hard to find that it's tough to rely on them.

My favorite weapons so far:

R-301 Carbine
Flatline
Hemlok Burst AR
Shotguns

It's tough to find Sniper Rifles that useful IMO. They become useful if you can have two teammates go engage at closer range and one person hanging in a safe area providing sniper fire.

I think you just aim down sights and hold to charge it, although it’s possible you need the precision choke to do so - I haven’t paid attention that well to those small details.

And yeah agree that sniping is kind of difficult in this game. Given the prevalence of OP sniper rifles in shooters, I’m ok with that decision. They seem to get more useful when the ring is smaller and you are trying to hold ground.

Had a game last night where we got involved in an early fight and I actually bagged a rare kill. I was in a hut and thought I was safe for a moment to heal up when a Pathfinder opened the door behind me, actually hooked me with his grapple, pulled me to him, and capped me.

And then he did the finishing move on me. I'm not even mad - I was impressed by his ruthlessness.

Despite my incredible suckiness and technical problems, I very much enjoy this game.

Something I just learned today:

The Sniper scopes have markings below the main crosshairs for where to aim to account for bullet drop after XXX number of meters.

Energy weapons do not have any bullet drop.
