Question for people who are paying and done with the trial. Is there only a month to month subscription option? When I went to reactivate, i only had an option to pay 19.95 per month. I thought they reduced the price if you pay for like a couple months or a year in advance.
I got a gamecard off this site. Gamecards

It is $14.99 for 30 days or $38.99 for 90 days. I have used this guy in the past for WoW cards and have no complaints. The first time you order he will call you to avoid paypal fraud but after that you get your codes instantly.

Also, I see a ton of people trading gamecards for isk on the forums. I saw 330 million isk or so for 90 day card. Probably some kids working at Best Buy and stealing them.

I am now back in a rifter.
Sweet . I've lost 4 frigs so far :P. Decided to train up some things for a while and mine for a bit in 0.9. So i bought a badger and i'm doing like hour long mining runs since it takes forever to fill up 4,475.2m3. I was making about 25k ISK/run in my figate and it looks like i can make about 400k/run in the badger. It will cost me about 3 runs to pay off my ship/training industrials and my laser though.

Mining in an industrial is alright if you're a noob and you want a way to make some ISK while mostly AFK, or at least not paying attention to Eve.

However, don't get used to it. AFK mining has the following problems:

1) You can only really do it in 1.0 or .9 sec areas -- lower sec areas have NPC pirates that you'd have to fight/evade. Of course, 1.0 and .9 sec have ores that aren't worth that much.
2) Your industrial will only fit 1 mining laser, and thus is ultra mega slow compared to what even a properly fitted mining cruiser can yield. I can fit 5 miner IIs + 1 mining upgrade + 5 mining drones on my Vexor, for example.

What you can do, if you're planning to mine for awhile but you're not going to be actually AFK, is jet-can mine. Get into your frig and fit it with your mining stuff. Find a spot, start mining. When the first round of ore comes in, jettison it. A little can will pop up next to your ship.

You can open that jettisoned can, and continue dragging ore there from your cargo hold. Then when you're done, you can go dock and get your hauler to haul it back. Jet cans hold 27,500 m3, so you can do a lot with this method.

Notes:

1) Jet cans dissapear after 1 - 2 hours. Standard protocol is to name them, putting the time in. If you're mining for more than an hour, jettison a new can and move everything to that one.
2) You can encounter ore thieves, or pirates pretending to be ore thieves. If someone steals ore from your jet can, CONCORD will NOT fire on them. You will be able to, though. Of course, if you're new or a miner, then that's exactly what they're hoping you'll do, because then they can fire back.

This is also why you should be very careful never to take something out of another player's can or NPC wreck -- it gives them 15 minutes of open season on you.

Thanks for the info. I had two lasers on my bantam and i notice how much slower this is than it was in the bantam, but i'm saving a lot of time warping back and forth. Of course i didn't know about this jet can thing at the time. I might go ahead and try that instead and pick them up w/ my industrial.

I wasn't planning on doing this for very long though. Just like 10mil ISk or so. Basically i want enough for a cruiser and a replacement saved up before i move into them. I'm wasting some time on learning/navigation and other 'core' skills right now that i feel i should probably have before i make the jump, so it seemed like a good time to just make a decent amount of low risk cash before some of those finish.

:P
My 4th was lost when some 35k bounty pirates apparently had a warp disrupter. I failed to kill them but not as badly as i failed to warp out when i tried. There's nothing like attempting to flee something that moves faster than you and try and warp over and over again only to be told something is disrupting your warp drive .

I doubt it happens very often in lower missions. But it was enough for me to decide i needed something other than combat to make a bit of money for a while. Needed a break before something came along and podded me :P. Oh, also i'm very very close to 900k still points now. Going to have to buy a bigger clone, hopefully they don't cost too much.

35K pirates are in cruisers, right? So you go against those in a frigate? That's pretty gutsy

I'm not saying it isn't doable. But I'd feel a lot safer in a cruiser of my own.

There are some good threads on equipping various ships here if you want some inspiration. It has helped me a lot.

Thanks, i'll check it out. I had been doing mostly 18k pirates before that, this one just happened to be 35k . I'm definitely sticking to 18k or below pirates and mining until my cruiser. I have about 5mil ISK now so it shouldn't be too long until i try and take on a 35k pirate again.

F U newbies. I'm 2.5 months old and I'm only up to 1.1 mil skillpoints.

Granted I quit for about a month in there but post-Revelations, new people get sooo many skill points.

Which is why now's a good time to join, but it angers me that I had to train a lot of this [censored] that you just start out with now.

Also, offer's still out there for anyone who wants 3 mil ISK to get going. PM me with an Eve name and I'll send it your way. All I ask is that you use it sparingly -- don't blow it all on hookers and coke, consider it a reserve stash to use if your frigate gets blow'd up. Because I remember how much it sucks to buy a shiny new ship and then get knocked back into a starter ship. Also, I ask that if you decide to quit after your trial is up, that you send your remaining money / items to me. :-p

I've got about 60 mil right now and probably another 60 mil in unsold loot / unprocessed ore, so helping out 5-10 2p2ers isn't going to break me or anything.

In other news, more people need to check in with their thoughts and experiences thus far.

In other other news, I've got my learning skills to 4, my advanced learning skills to 3, and a full set of +3 implants (add attribute points just like learning skills, but cost money and if you get podded, you lose them -- I think these set me back about 60-70 mil) and it's STILL going to be another 3 days or so until Drones 5 finishes.

But once that finishes, I should be able to solo 2-3 NPCs with 900k bounties without any trouble. They also drop good lootz.

Madtown, how does it work in your corp? Do you mine solo or do you have an escort? And if you have an escort, how to you split the profits?

I guess I'm asking how safe/unsafe it is out there in the outback...

In other news I just finished "The Blockade" mission on level 2. It's the one where you get 4 waves of pirates. It paid 500K and another 880K in bounties. Plus loot and loyalty points. Not bad.

I'm about to crack 25M on my current char (Chia Mulholland if you want to say hi). I have about 15M on the one I started with - who had bad attributes and awful skills (The rats don't listen even if you have Diplomacy at level 5 )

I'm trying to figure out my next upgrade. Right now I'm training Cruiser level 4. That'll take 5 days to get.

Sort of, it depends.

Most of the time, miners mine solo in our system. There's usually a few people ratting (killing NPC pirates for loot/bounties) as well. If not, there's at least someone ON that can even if that's not what they're currently doing.

Anyway, if rats show up in a belt that defenseless miners are working on, they just warp out and call for a clear in corp chat. Whoever's ratting will clear that belt and the miner returns within a few minutes. No monetary reward, since the ratter gets the bounties/loot anyway.

For mining ops, where several minerals are mining in the same belt for a few hours to get ore en masse, we'll get a few people on security (from NPC rats or player pirates) and another person dedicated to hauling. I haven't been on one of these so I'm not sure how to money is divided afterwards.

It's fairly safe out here, if you're smart. We keep any and all known pirate / pirate corps set to negative standings, so they show up with a red minus mark on local. People are advised to dock immediately if a hostile shows up in local. Combat pilots (assuming we've got a few online, which we do except for hours that are bad for both Euro and US) will group up and try to chase him down and kill him -- at the least, we'll usually chase them out once they figure out that the only people outside the station that they could kill are part of a party hunting their ass.

If it makes you feel any better i just bought (and have not yet started training):

Mechanic
Afterburner
Hull Upgrades
Eneergy Systems Operation
Energy Management
Targeting
Weapon Disurption
Signature Analysis
Frequency Modulation
Target Navigation Prediction
Heavy Missiles
Warp Drive Operation
for ~500k isk

My learnings (analytical/instant recall/learning/spacil) are all up to 3 except iron will which is 4. Besides everything i just bought i need to train electronic warfare/electronics upgrades each up a rank as well as missile projection up one rank, navigation up two and cruisers up 1-2. I plan on doing most of that before i jump into a cruiser. So while i'm only a couple hundred k skillpoints behind there's still a ton i have to do before i can hunt rats in 0.0 / pvp decently in a cruiser.

Decided I liked missiles, so minmatar weren't the race for me. Swapped to caldari. Just picked up the very sweet missile cruiser.

One thing I was curious about. I've read there's supposed to be some great reward for finishing the tutorial? I went all the way through it on my first character and didn't really get anything special. Am I missing something here?

Mmmm, enjoying the cruiser. Interesting thing is 80k missile range, 200m/s nonafterburner velocity. Not sure if I love or hate the fact I can shoot things down over a distance that would take me 7 minutes to cover.

I'm currently sitting on a vigil (frig). I enjoy that ship a lot, but I think I'll move to a rifter some time soon. The more slots, the merrier, eh?

My current setup:
(high)
2x AC (150mm iirc)
1x missile launcher
(medium)
1x shield boost I
1x scrambler (not used at all in high sec, might replace it)
1x AB
(low)
1x stabilizer (not really useful in high sec, either)
1x armor repairer
1x empty (no idea what to put in here)

I'm aiming to become a ratter/general security guy for some corp. I might even get into pirating if I don't find a proper non-pirate corp but a fun pirate corp.
Either way, I'll need to get those PvP gadgets and skills for them.

So far, I'm still on the a. mind/i. recall/learning loop, having the AM on 4 but the other two on 3 only. But I've got a couple of other skills up to lvl 2 or higher, including some electronics, gunneries, and navigations (AB & high speed man. ftw).

I can't make up my mind for my secondary skill setup. So far, I've moved a few steps towards trading, but I'm not sure if I want to go trading/hauling or do something else.
Mining is out of the question for me, just seems far too boring for me, I'd rather go out there and steal some other miner's cans.
If you've got any ideas which skill set would be a good complement to a PvP set, I'd be glad to hear from you.

wow this is an awesome thread, reminds me of when I started eve back in April

i'm taking a break right now from Eve because I forgot to update my clone after i died and I lost 384k skill points off my Propulsion Jamming skill that I had trained up to 5 for the Warp Disrupt probes in my Interdictor -- I fly Sabres.

so anyways, my corp specializes in commando warfare. with a dedicated squad, you can take out battleships with as few as 4 frigates (granted, we had a couple t2 versions, but...) we're part of the Dusk and Dawn alliance though which puts most of you guys in hostile status if you're friends with Goonswarm or U'K...

Be warned, the vast majority of ship fittings on the EVE-O forums will get you wtfpwned in PVP. it's important to learn which ships are trash and which are awesome -- every race has some of these. If you stick to fitting the ships with modules that complement their bonuses you should do ok. this kind of info is the #1 thing that an established corp can help you out with.

One last thing -- there most definately is 'very rare' drops, they're called faction loot. they range from 10-25mil "upgrades" of common modules to 60-600mil implants. check out the variations tab, or search for 'snake' implants. the most rare of items won't show up on market, only on contracts (formerly called escrow).

I'm the only one in this thread who's even in a corp right now, I think. Most others are just people convinced to give the trial a try.

Re: D2, GoonSwarm, and U'K

My corp is currently +10 to CVA (we reside in CVA low-sec), -10 to U'K (they kept shooting us despite the fact that we are not pirates, nor do we carry slaves). We're friendly with GoonSwarm, but it's still a tenative and new thing and it's all business/trade.

All that said, I thought D2 and the Goons were somewhat neutral these days? Am I wrong on that? If I am, that makes me sad -- I was hoping to see a galactic civil war! BoB fighting D2 and friends up north, BoB and LV fighting TCF, RA, AAA, IAC and Goons in the south.

Yeah, I guess I should have been clearer on that. There's rare loot, but it's not of the same nature as in WoW etc.

1) It's not bind on pickup, so if you REALLY want that super rare item, you can buy it (you might pay out the ass for it, and you might have to hunt down someone who has it, but you can buy it!).

2) None of it would be considered necessary or end-game stuff to own. You can't just get one or two sets of ultra rare items (PVE vs PVP) and consider yourself uber. You can get a frigate or a cruiser tricked out with faction loot, but there's still plenty of other ships to fly and different roles for them to play. And since you can lose those items permanently on death, you're not going to want to fly with them ALL the time anyway.

Nonetheless, there are "rare drops" out there. You just don't have to go dungeoning for hours and hours each night for months to get it, nor is it what would be described as "all purpose gear."
