My friend works as a Travian customer support, he tells me that this game is really popular in the Emirates and the Gulf countries among teens...He also swears that some prince from the UAE bought about 100k$ worth of gold/e-currency in the game .

It's addictive, although the best part of the game is that you can goldbuy and still lose.

I've been playing Ikariam for over 6 months now. My understanding is that is very similar to Travian? Agree?

Ikariam is pretty un-fulfilling in terms of having a lack of tactical decisions to be made, nor in regards to rewarding players who make them more skillfully. But it has that hook of "it's only a couple mins to pop in, send some ships out, click a build command or two, pop out" and "I've been playing for this long, I've got all this stuff built up, I'm too invested to quit".

I don't really have the time to dedicate to more involved games, and this genre of browser game seems to be about as deep as it gets for games you can play at work during compiles.

I have played this game, so interesting at first. But I don't have enough time for it now.

Anyone down for forming a 2+2 alliance, with some pre server restart planning put in and everything? I think this community has enough dedicated and intelligent members to win without paying a cent. If there's enough interest, I'll start an IRC channel and new thread, PM or reply here if you would be interested. I think server 9 is the next to restart, as it's the only one not running a game at the moment, but no restart is announced yet, so we have time.

Never played Travian. No idea how it works. I'm in.

Well we probably need at least 5 people to be competitive, so we should get at least 6 in case someone flakes out for whatever reason. This is a 260 day game by the way, 100 days on a speedserver, not like a week long thing, although there are often long periods of time between you being able to do anything, so it doesn't exactly require constant action, and you can set up "sitters", who can control your account for you when you're gone.

Regular servers are so slow that you will want to tear your eyes out. I don't think 6 really means competitive. I've been in a top 10 alliance with 20 players (on speed) before, but 6 is....

I figured 6 was perhaps a bare minimum to have fun, obviously the more members we have the more fun it will be. 5 so far.

Playing ts5 currently, won last server (dualing with another account) ended near top 100 was fun.

There was a bunch of people from 2+2 playing over the last 2 years. We were on the US Server as HK fighting for the Natars and destroying everyone's WWs until the natars won. Was a pretty good troll server.

What do you mean wrecked? I was in TWP! I remember donating like 2000 gems before I quit too.

You used gold, right? Wondering how competitive I can be this round without using any gold. I'm just using this round to basically "relearn" everything
