Gotta love retro.

Just did a no-death (not no continue, straight up 0death) run of Zelda 2's Japanese version recently. Big fan of old school Mario, Sonic, the rest of the old Zeldas...good way to kill a few nights.

Rock and roll racing (and biker mice from Mars) though.

Mario RPG was legit, and Earthbound too of course. F-zero still has replay value.

Mario Land 1 wasn't even made/licensed by Nintendo if I remember right. That'd explain it.

You remember wrong. SML was made by Nintendo.

You know nothing. Those are professional video monitors. You won't get games before PS2/XBOX/GC looking better on anything else including emus on PC.

When I priced out a 4 player custom built arcade machine/emulator, I was floored at how expensive a high end monitor was going to be.

Glad I never went through with it, because that would've increased the likelihood of random neighborhood children hanging out at my house and it turns out other people's kids are annoying as ****.

Yeah I'm only keeping two of the monitors in that pic but one of them is a BVM and it retailed at $20k when it was released. They don't sell for anywhere near that much now but are still really hard to find so I'm happy to get one for free.

Arcade monitors are still very expensive to buy though, anywhere from $500 - $2k+.

You don't mean physically, right? Because your back would snap in half if you ever tried.

It's insane how heavy it is. It's only 20" but it's long and all metal. You could do it by yourself but I had help.

Was just about to make a new thread with this exact title...and looked back.

Anyone ever play Skies of Arcadia? Thinking about playing that...a retroish game.

But yeah, I'm stuck in the past. These young whipper snappers missed out on all those good games we had.

(I'm 31 and starting to say these things :P)

I LOVE retro gaming!

The GBA is my favourite system to collect for (since it's cheap, 16-bit Nintendo goodness...+nostalgia). I think it was 2012 when I went back into gaming and started 'collecting'. Started with trying to get all the Zeldas, Metroids, Mega Mans etc. Then it just went on and on. I haven't invested that much into it, usually just waited for good deals and steals. And I don't really collect for SNES (though I do buy games now and then), since I find it a bit expensive.

I play my retro games using good RGB cables into a SCART - HDMI converter (not a cheap one). It looks fantastic that way.

The GBA is often the only console of which I can actually buy games online without the seller knowing the value or it being scooped up by someone that's on second hand sites 24/7.
Picked up Metroid Zero Mission and Fire Emblem the Sacred Stones for €2 each, for example

Hm, I don't think I've met someone that likes Zelda but doesn't like Metroid. At least, if you like 3D Zelda, you usually like the Prime games.

Zelda is my favourite gaming franchise. I went on a mission to beat them all recently. I'd rank them something like this:

(Masterpieces)
1. Majora's Mask
2. Ocarina of Time
3. The Wind Waker (HD)
(Excellent)
4. Twilight Princess (though I admit it is very flawed)
5. Link's Awakening DX
6. A Link to the Past
7. The Legend of Zelda
8. A Link Between Worlds
(Fun)
9. Skyward Sword
10. The Adventure of Link
11. The Minish Cap
12. Oracle of Seasons
13. Spirit Tracks
(Don't bother)
14. Oracle of Ages
15. Phantom Hourglass
16. Four Swords Adventures
17. Four Swords

I haven't beaten Tri Force Heroes, but it would definitely be somewhere at the bottom.

The beauty of Zelda, is that even some of the lesser good ones are still some of the best games for their respective systems. And if you play the better half of the franchise, you are certain to be playing an absolutely fantastic game.

I feel like you're forgetting the best Zelda games of all...the Zelda CD-i games. They are pretty much their own legacy. *extreme sarcasm*

Anyone love Super Mario RPG? That game I feel was awesome.

Any recommendations that may not be so mainstream? I love obscure games, and especially lengthy ones.

SMRPG is elite obviously. If you haven't played Earthbound play it. Ico for ps2 might be my favorite game ever.

I honestly think SMRPG is viewed through some rose-colored glasses; loved it when I first played it but found it pretty boring upon emulating it a few years back. Not that it's necessarily terrible or anything but people mention it in the same breath as Chrono Trigger and there's just no comparison at all there.

I've never heard of that, but looking at a quick introduction of the game, it seems pretty cool. Interesting concept...I will have to check it out. I've watched people stream Earthbound. IDK...I'm not sure it's for me. But I suppose I can give it a try.

I know I'm going to be fileted for this, but I've never played Chrono Trigger. I've heard it's an excellent game. I just haven't done it yet.

I think SMRPG is a good game for what it was. While it was pretty linear for an RPG, it had many elements that I think used the Super Nintendo to its capacity. If SMRPG had been on N64 or PS1 (Obviously, PS1 is off the table but just a thought), I think with the extra capabilities and seeing the work they put into the game, it might have been a masterpiece. However, I think it did everything it tried to do very well. I also think it's a game that is way better playing blind than guided. (Was anyone like me and missed that first treasure box of the game, where you only have one chance to jump on Toad's head, and probably spent more than an hour jumping around in the hall of the palace of the Mushroom Kingdom trying to find the box that chimed whenever I went in there and had the ring that detected hidden boxes? Square was cruel to do that :P)
