Any "Retro-gamers" out there? Any "Retro-gamers" out there?

It was because of the extra hardware required for the cartridges. It's the same reason that some of those ludicrously expensive games don't work very well on certain emulators. Those proprietary chips were never emulated properly.

I'm not a huge collector but I do enjoy playing my retro games and I have about 25 for each of NES, SNES, and N64. Last year I bought several SNES reproduction carts of games that never made it to the US in English. Final Fantasy V, Terranigma, and Tales of Phantasia are all worth checking out. One of these days I'll man up and drop the $90 required to get Star Ocean.
There are a few retro games stores that have popped up around my area in the last year. I was surprised at some of the prices. Saw a Mega Man X3 CIB go for $600 fast. I did pick up a Desert Strike SNES CIB for no reason really.

I mostly try and complete my GC collection. Probably find a game a week to pick up. Been looking for Skies of Arcadia for quite a while.

GC prices just keep going up. I'm just going on PAL prices so not sure about NTSC but it's just been insane in the last few years. Skies of Arcadia goes for over $200+ for example, Paper Mario and TP both get $150+ regularly. I'm lucky enough to have bought a lot of GC games when they were released.

I sold a lot of my GC stuff years ago. Kept most of the first party games but stupidly let go of some stuff. I imagine its going to take a while to build again as the pricing right now is high.

Haven't played an NES Mega Man in a while but I have 8 on my 360 - you just need to play the levels a few times and find a boss that can be taken down with your normal blaster, once you've gotten a boss weapon it's kind of gravy from there. I mean it's still difficult but it gives you a path to victory.

I love me some retro games. Every couple years I'll run some on emulators. I'm big into the 16bit era rpgs. Shining force, phantasy star, chrono trigger, final fantasys, secret of mana, breath of fire, and love the secret of mana 3 that you can get translated that never came out here. I've beat both the shining force games like 20 times each in my life love em fav games all time.

I'm playing The Legend of Zelda (NES) right now. Up to level 9.

Holy **** is it hard! And you have to actually find levels 7, 8 and 9! (which are hidden). Yeh ok you're given little hints but man...Also is a great game

The first Zelda was such an amazing experience as a kid. The only other game that gave me that "epic" feeling on the NES was Kid Icarus.

I did original LoZ last year, around this time. I hadn't been engrossed by any game as much as that in a very long time. Probably the 90's. I'm looking forward to starting Link's Awakening but I'm still working on Devil May Cry 3 for my retro fix

This crowd might get a kick out of this. An inside look at Sega's testing department from the mid-90s.

Reproduction carts have been around for a very long time. There's a few sites dedicated to selling them although most get them done with SFC games that never came out in the west or home brew.
