PT and HUDs are acceptable because the poker sites allow them. Bots are not allowed because poker sites do not allow them.
This is an argument from authority which is at best weak.
No it's not, an argument from authority would be like "<guy that knows a lot about morality> says X, so X". When you sign up for a site you explicitly agree to their terms and conditions. Using PT or a HUD doesn't violate those terms, using a bot does.
Strictly speaking I grant your objection. However, OP wrote:
"why [are] PT and HUDs considered ok by the community while bots are not?"

To answer that that it is because of the room's rules does not address why the community thinks bots cross a line. To say that the line is the room's rule is essentially to say the community doesn't like bots b/c the rooms don't allow them. I don't think that really gets to why one might be opposed to bots.

Or to put it another way, are you saying that if the rooms allowed them and you had one you would use it and you would be cool with others doing the same? And your reason would be "b/c the rooms allow it"?

Just asking.

Read the thread, I already responded to the exact same comment. This is a moral question, not rules.
It is an ethical question, not a moral one.
Definitions of moral on the Web:
* relating to principles of right and wrong; i.e. to morals or ethics; "moral philosophy"

Definitions of ethics on the Web:
* ethical motive: motivation based on ideas of right and wrong
