A simple yet effective way to look at it is this:

Consider your opponent's MDF when betting (i.e. if I pot this flop and I have data to support that he/pool folds 65% to PSB, we probably have ourselves a good spot)

Use pot odds when facing calling decisions.

MDF = 1-alpha

alpha = bet/(pot+bet)

example: Hero bets half pot on river

alpha = 0.50/(1.0+0.5) = 0.50/1.5 = 0.33

MDF = 1.00 - alpha = 1.00 - 0.33 = 0.67
