I almost certainly play worse when I am stoned, but a good majority of my breakthroughs in thought process or leak fixing have been done while high (sad I know). It just seems like I'll think about a hand and have alot more fun trying to figure out why everything is the way it is etc and realise I should do a more often or whatever.

Maybe thats the same sober thought procses for anyone who really really enjoys poker though, kinda sad for me

a couple people in this thread (tom0815 & Matty_PEE) seem to think that it's impossible to process information, concentrate or think deep thoughts whilst stoned. that isn't the case for most people, especially regarding deep thoughts. most people actually think much, much deeper when blazed. i take more creative lines when high as opposed to when sober, and i'm sure i'm not the only one. weed+poker /= poker bot tendencies.

you're not the first to mention this, and i definitely agree with your point. i just don't see why you guys don't apply this in real-time and crush instead of playing worse than normal.
you're doing it wrong imo.

im not saying its hard to have deeps thoughts whilst stoned, just unlikely those deep thoughts will have any positive impact on your game whatsoever. im not hating on weed but if you think it doesnt affect your ability to play poker then you either havent smoked weed or havent played poker

yeah, because deep thinking can have a negative impact on your poker playing.
genius itt.

Yeah I see where you're coming from and I wish I could change it, it just seems like if i'm playing stoned i'll be like 'OH MAN THIS GUY IS TOTALLY SAD FROM WHEN I BLUFFED HIM BEFORE AND NOW HES ANGRY SO HE WILL ACTUALLY BE BLUFFING ALOT OF THE TIME' and 3bet over a c/r on the river or something and get called by a fh. That's a bit of an extreme example but basically I have too many other factors (mind wandering, tripping out, reading into emotions too much) that hinder my real time play, but if I'm just thinking about a hand (even though it might take longer because i'm tripping etc) I'll generally come up with something better than sober that will be mostly theory based.

Also alot of the time I'll come up with an idea stoned (poker idea obv) and write in in a notepad with details and then think about it later when im sober and that works out well too.

Note that I smoke a fair amount of weed so it's not just a lack of experience with weed.

Making this post seems like a very bad idea. Particularly the part about payment methods.

I can happily play winning poker when I'm high. I'm a fairly regular and high-functioning smoker so I don't get caught up in the "omg lol i'm so high wheeee" mindset that infrequent smokers get anymore, and if I'm going to play poker I only get moderately high so I can still focus and think clearly.

As for how it affects my game, I tend to play much the same apart from being more patient and thinking through tricky situations better. Less hero calls and more marginal folds when I could be ahead but am probably behind. Although I get a little over-cautious in some spots and play my late game less aggressively sometimes. My winrate is pretty much the same whether I'm high or not - yes, I've played enough poker when high to be able to make this claim with some confidence, degen I know - so it's not actually helping my game (apart from identifying leaks as others have said), but it definitely makes me enjoy playing more, so it's nice when I'm losing a bit of motivation.

The big questions is the euphoria/immediate satisfaction +EV enough to counteract the obvious -EV implications of stoned thinking. Sure you may come up with creative lines at times and look at certain aspects of the game differently but it does cloud your thinking. Like it was already mentioned, it depends on your tolerance level as well and if you are an functioning stoner.

After I blaze a bag of vape, I feel much more motivated and patient to sit down and grind. Do I always make the the most profitable decisions while on bananas? Probably not - but do I tilt less and play longer sessions then if I wasn't? Most def.

In my own experience, getting high helps me when I'm playing just a few tables. I analyze things at a deeper level and am a lot less prone to tilt. Multitabling SNGs however is a different story. I'm not able to make decisions as fast and am not as motivated to grind long sessions. Live though I think I am much better when stoned.

As far as the networking stuff, I definitely agree to a point.
