The reason why I am posting this hand is because it is a situation that happens a few times and I have been helpless in countering it. I think I played it pretty standard.

Guy was playing 24/18 over 17 hands. I assumed he would only do this with a set, but possibly a bluff as I was pretty aggressive at the time (I play 22/20, but had picked up a few premium hands on the table which didn't go to showdown).

So what would you do in this situation? I kinda read him as having an overpair, a set, or 89s so laid the hand down hoping for a better situation. I assume I should have c-bet the flop but I read in another thread that people would check behind for "cheap showdown". Could anyone explain the logic for wanting to give the opponent free cards for a cheap showdown? Is this when there is a low chance he will go chip-crazy?

P.S. Just tell me if I am obviously overanalysing this hand and was ofc beat because of a check raise. I just thought he may be playing at me as I got an impression he was a thinking player and he did indeed later after a few more hands call me "mr reraise".

I think shoving here at $4nl is fine.

he flat called 5x, then re-raised a low flop?
Shove, you either have the same hand(he may turn AA, KK, QQ just as often as JJ, TT, 99 here ) or he's really just not thinking.

shove. Theres plenty of lower pocket pairs in his range, bluffs, and also occasional pair + straight draws type of hands like 66, 76, etc. for example. This is standard shove...and folding it is most defintiely not playing it standard sir. gl

PS: u should be cbetting 75 percent of flops imo. And even more so when u actually have a hand such as the situation right here.
