Two hands I am told I played poorly 50NL Two hands I am told I played poorly 50NL

Hi

I posted both of these hands to the FTP regulars in SSNL as pure frustration and got a comment that I played both hands poorly. OK, fine, that thread/forum is the wrong place to talk about that... and frankly I am always open to constructive criticism, after all I am here to improve.

First hand... Villain has been all over the place. History, villain stacked me with dumb end of a str8 where I was hopeful he had the bad end and I could push him off it. Then in a limped pot I stack him with a flopped flush versus his 6 high flopped flush. All of this history was in last couple of orbits, so my image is "battling with the villain".

Villain is running 65/6/16% over ~50 hands.

My thoughts:

I did not 4bet the mini raise, as IME these 60+/single digit fish fall into one of two categories. 1) They only 3bet KK+/AK 2) They will 3bet any pair and ~AJ+ and turn into a calling station post flop. I was not sure which this guy was... So if this guy is the first type and I crushed by his range. If he is the second type, a 4bet will likely only fold worst hands and get called by better, extracting minimum value out of everything we beat.

Second hand...

No history with this villain, he is running 13/12/37% over ~150 hands. Based on a few hands I have been at the table with him, he is solid, leaning towards set miner.

Thoughts:

Most of the time when I flop a set on this type of dry flop I am leading. But something flashed in my mind from a DC video along the lines of "I have the board locked up... Give them a chance to bluff at it."

The SB is a fish 60/6 and the villain was the type to pounce on that weak turn lead from the fish, so I flat looking to RR the villain.

Wow. You really misplayed those hands. Both are fold pre-flop when the villain will spike quads on the river.

Seriously though. On first hand I cbet flop and likely get it in on turn. End result probably doesn't change.

Stop running bad.

ZOMG you lost two hands to 4 of a kind, that happens to me like 5 times a session.

I am not the one saying they were played "poorly". So either I got massively leveled...

Hand #1 is a pretty easy 4-bet IMO. WHile there is obviously the possibility that he has a very tight 3-betting range, that isn't all that likely, and he is much less likely to have AA or KK since you have AK. As played preflop the rest of the hand is fine, although you might want to raise slightly more (~20) so that your river shove will be slightly less than pot.

I don't mind the flop check in hand #2 with your reads. You HAVE to raise the turn the first time around though. Just because villain is the type to pounce on weakness doesn't mean he is likely to do so in a 4-way pot. Most SSNL regs are way more straightforward in multiway pots than in headsup pots. Also, tons of suited connectors and the like hit pair+straight draw type hands on the turn, and you really don't want the SB or anyone else to get a cheap look at a river that might either kill your hand or your action. Plus if SB does have a good hand and no one else does then you need to raise to get stacks in.

Hi,

I did not read your analysis of these hands, but here's mine. I play 100NL though, so feel free to ignore.

Hand 1: With a gutshot and over-cards in hand 1 I think we can profitably cbet the flop. Since villain min 3B you PF I am hardly ever putting him on 44. His turn action looks a lot like he hit 2 pair, a set or like he's chopping with you for a straight. With a pot-sized bet on the river I don't think we can fold here.

Hand 2: Flop check is pretty sweet. As far as the turn goes, it does not matter what you do here, any action you take on the turn (apart from folding obv.) looks really strong.

Understand that both of these hands are standard and running into quads happens so (so) infrequently that you will lose more money than you will save if you start folding top boat. Chalk them up as a cooler and move on. Whoever told you that you played these hands poorly is a moron.
