Re: Perky Debt

Alec,
Can you go in the logistical details of the chipdump? Did it start as viffer says, by you just trying to play well, without any chat/phone communication whatsoever? When and how did the agreement to use betsizing tells occur? Did you ever propose to talk on the phone during the chipdump instead of more complicated methods such as betsizing tells? If so, what was perky's answer? Why did you agree to use betsizing tells?

Viffer,
You say the use of betsizing tells started midst the session, because alec couldn't win. How do they agree to this / define what tells to use when the backer is supposedly watching?

Re: Perky Debt

there was an argument itt about whether stolen money lost in a poker game would be recoverable by the authorities and the Tobey Maguire case came up - some news on this today

Tobey settled out of court for $80k

Re: Perky Debt

If you're chip dumping and worried about getting past a poker site's security team, you don't use a bet sizing tell as cover because it won't convince them. But if you're covering yourself against a single backer who is watching the match, you can tell them a one-on-one story along the lines of "he must be figuring out what I'm doing and adjusting to it" and you might get away with the dump.

MOD EDIT: When I clicked the link in this post I got a weird popup saying "A username and password are being requested by http://www.rivered.de. The site says: "Login for rivered.de"" I don't know what that's about. I'm pm'ing pfunk to see. I'm sure it's something harmless, but in the meantime, click at your own risk.

everyone commenting on someone staking perky, read this thread. the nyu dave they are talking about is perky and some of the live players saw he was up a bunch and thought he could be tough. it certainly wasn't just throwing money away in their mind.

the issue isn't really important anyways, but w/e.

Re: Perky Debt

Maybe I missed it, but it seems no one is picking up on Viffer saying that Perky dumped more than he owed to Alec, and was paid the difference later.

Can't think of a legitimate reason for this happening

The situation was pretty straight forward. We agreed to freezeouts and played on credit. Previously (in NYC) we had done the same format countless times with no issues.

Several days later, he wanted to dump the money to me. I owed half to Isaac (I didn't mention anything before as I didn't want to involve him until I talked with him) and I made the mistake of dumping. I didn't think I was affecting anyone since and had no idea of Perkys personal situation.

At that time, I had won over $500,000 from Perky. I treated him well, like the Bellagio does to their biggest clients. They accommodate them. It should be obvious that he was a huge source of revenue for many people in the poker community. I was willing to extend him various accommodations and play matches on his terms in order to ensure he kept playing me. When it came to dumping chips at his request, I did it. What I didn't want to happen was to bust his balls after beating him for a ton of money and have him not pay or not continue to play me. Call me naive. Call me stupid. But to equate this with a premeditated ploy where I somehow stole $150,000 is untrue.

I'm willing to take questions from Viffer since he is the one accusing me of this. If he comes to post, I'll answer. Otherwise, I don't think it's fair that I'm considered guilty of anything based on speculation. I also don't think I'm responsible for responding to spurious claims with no proof.

Lastly, I apologize for the way I came across earlier. I got a little upset hearing these accusations and it caused a lot of stress in my life. I shouldn't have came off like an arrogant ****** and made it seem like I was somehow perfect. I'm far from it and have done as many things as anyone to rub people the wrong way.

He did make an extremely vague DogIsHead-esque blog post.

I mean, closing the post with “We all have to decide for ourselves how much sin we can live with" is basically an admission of guilt, no?

Or it's some vague meaningless bull**** that could be meant in a million different ways depending on whatever random grandiose thoughts were floating through Alec's mind at the time. Psychoanalyzing poor writing can be a fool's errand IMO

Re: Perky Debt

I can't believe I read every post in this thread. I really need a life

Some of the personal attacks on peoples reputations in this thread are just plain, ****ing outrageous. Nobody really knows what happened, but yet is willing to sling mud behind the safety of their keyboard.

It's impossible to know for certain whether Alec Torelli knew Perky had a backer when the chip dumping happened. But at the same time, why would the money just not be transferred or paid in cash? Why would Perky have to chip dump to Alec? Alec should have known something was up when Perky said he would have to chip dump the funds.

At the very least Torelli has made a very serious error in judgement and didn't think clearly. If he was oblivious to the fact Perky had a backer, he is just plain stupid for not thinking the chip dumpng was suspect. There are so many different ways you can pay someone 150k without violating a poker sites tos.

At the very worst, Torelli was complicit in stealing money from Perkys backer and is a thief.

I'm not here to cast aspersions on Torelli, as I have only met the guy once and I don't know anything about him. But he definitely hasn't done himself any favours by starting this thread, and then dodging the serious questions presented to him within.

When all is said and done though, I am willing to give him the benefit of the doubt, as this does appear to be a one off isolated incident. It's not like Torelli had a bad rep in the poker world before this, and I think you have to cut the guy some slack.

I just hope it all gets sorted out and everyone involved gets their money. Fat chance though

Lol.

Cliffs;
I think people should stfu about their unfouded opinions!
But here is my equally unfounded one! : Torelli is somewhere on the scale |stupid--------thief|

Sorry just had to make that observation there, not a bad a post really.

Good luck all.

No. I just pointing out that it's wrong for gossip mongers to tarnish peoples reps on the internet, when in truth they know **** all about what really happened.

I'm just willing to cut him some slack and not jump to unfounded conclusions. I am willing to give people who have good reps the benefit of the doubt on most occassions, and this one is no different. Innocent until proven guilty.
