''Stolen'' and ''lost'' are two completely different things and whether he's a huge whale or not is completely irrelevant

I dont feel bad for Alec. From what it sounds like, they sheared this fish for millions until they finally skinned him. Now they want him to make good when he is likely busto. I just see this as part of the territory when it comes to professional hustling. When a fish is completely cleaned out you don't keep chomping at the bit. You accept those "losses" (unpaid debt) as part of the game, part of your line of work and move on.

And lets be clear. In this setting, Alec et. al are basically professional hustlers. Their primary goal is not to play better than others in an open competition kind of way. Their goal is to setup high-stakes games with fish where they are massive favorites. Then when the fish dumps it all off, they move on to the next mark. This guy was probably such a mark that he was basically drawing dead at having a penny left over. Legally the money is yours, but if someone played a game where they didn't know that the end result is that 100% of the time they'd be broke, most people would call that being cheated. So in that sense its somewhat immoral to take their money.

But I'm not here to tell you how you should make your money. After all, I'm a professional gambler, so I'm guilty too. My point is that you should feel blessed for the money you did win (which I see almost as a gift), instead of praising yourself for all your hard work and dedication at fleecing someone and then feeling entitled to the guy's bank account as you break him. Get over yourself; this poker arena is the wild west. You have two options when it comes to this kind of debt: get violence involved, or swallow your pride. Own up to whatever choice you make, instead of crying like a *****.
Spot on analysis.

Yup, went on a 5 day vacation 5 days ago, so should be back to answer some of gr8's questions in the next day or two.

Here's the post.

Re: Perky Debt

Who is the backer? Can we get some info from him and on him?

Alec, have you tried to contact the backer? If you want to be respectable, you must get with him and agree upon an arrangement. Maybe he'll say just give him half. Maybe he'll want the 150. Maybe he'll say you can have it and its his own fault for backing Perky. He got stolen from, so it's his call.

It seems clear that you care about 1) your reputation and likely that you 2) want to do the right thing. If those are true, you gotta try to make this right with the backer.

As of now, I, for one, am losing so respect for you until I hear you've done what the backer asks.

What if it is to protect his knees, his fingers, or his life? Would that be a greater motivation? I would simply let the family know (from a payphone LDO) that their son's life was in absolute danger if the debts were not taken care of.

Yeah, cause I'm sure a wealthy land developer wouldn't know anyone in the "knees, fingers or life" business.

That and Alec is a co-conspirator (knowing or unknowingly) in another crime with the man he's trying to collect from.

I was clearly not thinking straight. Like I said, I shouldn't have been here muddying up the thread. Sorry.

Yeah it looks like I was using the word stolen in two different instances. Like Perky stole the money from the backer by convincing the backer he was a winning player. This isn't really stealing, it's just shady hustling.

Then I was saying I couldn't see it being wrong if Alec accepted these funds as payment even if he knew Perky had "stole" the money. But what I really meant was if he knew Perky had hustled the money from the backer, at that point it didn't necessarily seem wrong to me.

If Perky had robbed a bank, then definitely I didn't think it would be right for Alec to accept it as payment if he knew about it.

I'm gonna leave this thread alone now.

As an outsider of the HS NL forum, I have been keeping up with this thread and am interested in seeing where it will go. Certainly got side-tracked at times.

Fwiw... Alec Torelli's twitter:

"AlecTorelli Just finished updating my website. Would love to hear your comments. Alectorelli.com

I hope some of gr8's questions get addressed since the computer-less vacation appears over.

Re: Perky Debt

1. Your never going to get paid.... So this post is worthless people will prolly still lend him money or stake him...

2, Posting this on the internet was a bad idea, it will only bring out every silly things you have ever did or worse...

3. Debating on-line is a waste of time, it will be permanent and everything you say will be used against you...

4. Be happy you got the 150k that's a lot of money (I could live like a rock star and travel for 50k a year) , and cut ties with all parties involved. Ask a tax accountant if you can deduct this bad debt from your taxes. Besides that I would not post here, it will only make you look dumb, and people will only read what they want to see from your posts so people will still say stupid stuff and tilt your nuts off or make enemies for no reason... People already made their minds up no reason for you to try and change them bc no matter what you write they will still think they are correct.

Re: Perky Debt

Perky was known as a very rich trust fund kid not a scam artist.

It makes little sense to thinks it's necessary to question somebody who is so wealthy. Do you think Perky said hey Alec, I'm going to steal 150k from my friend and pay you that way. If your Alec, seems pretty reasonable to assume this kid will somehow finagle 150k from his rich family.

Most importantly, who the **** would back Perky? Maybe loan him 150k but surely not back him. I find it hard to believe that Haley staked him.

If Haley just loaned Perky 150k, then this whole issue is meaningless. Seems more likely Perky just scammed Haley.

If Haley actually staked him, did Perky give any kind of personal guarantee if he lost? Why would Haley think he could profit from backing a huge loser?

Waiting for RBK to call Todd Terry and zachvac ******ed dimwits who pose a threat to the collective sanity of the species.

Or maybe time to stfu and stop going off on people who know way more about law and ethics than you do? Especially in a case where you clearly have bias.
