If the Acevedo book is "Modern Poker Theory" then that was the other book on my Christmas list. I have thumbed through it. It goes through lots of solver outputs which is neat, but it's primarily a tournament book and does a lot of work on shorter stack spots.

Yeah thats the one. Didn't realize it was focused on mtts but have heard nothing but good reviews about it from other solid pros.

So after 20k hands at 10NL Blitz, and 87 pairs of aces, we're finally profitable with AA.

Super exciting.

If there's one thing I really hate about Bovada, it's joining a random table and seeing this

Anyone have any recommendations to help with eye strain? I normally wear contacts, and I'm mostly near sited so I can basically see the screen fine without them, should I take them out? I've tried tinkering with the "nighttime" settings on my display and that seems to help a bit. Do the blue light glasses actually work?

f.lux

Used it for years and helps tremendously. Always feels strange being on a computer without now

edit: I also wear contacts in my day to day life but always wear my glasses when grinding

Played some 1/2 yesterday. Haven't played much in a while, but I felt really comfortable.

Two of the fishiest plays were made by the same woman. You know, the kind that watches movies on her giant iPad.

Play 1 - Limps EP, few more limps, BTN makes it 5. Back to the woman who flats. Flop and turn don't have a ton of action. Board is something is like 775xx or 557xx. She bets $15 and gets called. She shows AA

Play 2 - At this card room, they run high hand promotions. It was something like 500 every 20 minutes. Currently the high hand was a K high straight flush. So it folds to her in the SB, and BB offers to chop (super standard). She says she wants to see a flop, also standard when someone has potential to beat the current high hand. He asks, can you beat what's up there? Eh, probably not okay to start asking specifics, but she says yes. So they play and check it down. She shows A5s

I finished up about 2 BIs

Haha, the Zone pool was surprisingly tight for a Saturday too. GL in the 50 games! You belong at like 200NL+ based on your theoretical knowledge.

My city has some of the world's softest live 1/2 games, but I just hate live NL too much to play in them. The standard open raise size is $15 and the standard iso size is $20. The flops will usually be 4-6 handed despite these huge sizings. Post-flop is equally hilarious. If you play anything resembling a standard online strategy, you are considered an evil nit and people whine.

blue light glasses work, but take some getting used to, you might have some headaches at first

then there are some basics tips:
- don't play in a room that's too dark
- turn down your screen brightness

when your eyes feel strained/tired, take a break and find an open space to stare far into the distance / at the horizon, that relaxes your eyes

never wear them while on the computer or phone because it'll make my eyes hurt after a little while

if you can see the screen no problem then perhaps just get a set of glasses for when you're grinding at home and just keep them handy for when you need em

never understood why people wore contacts at home instead of glasses but then again i hate contacts too so that definitely biases it

Is that a thing? I thought they were fine as long as you don’t wear them while you sleep and replace/clean them as often as you’re supposed to

Health wise, they don't provide any benefits to your eyes.
I'm not saying you should actively avoid them (I do wear them 10+ hours a day), but I don't see why it'd be better to wear them when there's no reason to.
Sure they're pretty comfortable and safe these days, but still not entirely free of adverse effects.
In your case for example, staring at a monitor for long hours will make you blink less and dry your eyes, which is a pain when wearing contact lenses, while with glasses it should ease up.
