My fantasy basketball league needs one more team. It's $80, yahoo, auction draft with a small keeper component. The draft will likely be Monday October 22 at 9pm EST. The pool is a lot of fun and doesn't require much time. You set your lineup once for the week.

If I know you or you are an MSNL regular and are interested, PM me for more details.

A lot of bashing on a lot of religions, basically never on Judaism! Did you know? It's properly traditional for the mohel (trained mutilator, often also a doctor or rabbit actually) to suck the freshly circumcised penis - religiously supported paedophilia and genital mutilation, what wholesome spiritual fun.

All religion is absolutely ******ed, bar perhaps Buddhism which to the extreme is still ridiculous. I would like to here arguments for the contrary but in my mind it's simply a grossly outdated concept which was used to manipulate the masses and provide some sort of comfort when life was extremely depressing and hard in centuries passed. I find it hard to fathom how remotely intelligent people can still believe this ****, being brain washed from birth is a b.itch.

I'm not even a little bit religious but:

There's a difference between traditions that are thousands of years old, and something created in the last few hundred years.

Not saying that either is alright, just that something created so recently is far more ridiculous.

I usually word it in a nicer way, but yeah.

Have a lot of friends who are extremely intelligent people who get angry any time we try to discuss it. Its painful.

A ****ing "intergalactic warrior"? LOL A+... I remember watching Religulous(which is awesome if you haven't seen it) and seeing more quacky **** about mormons. So crazy that the potential PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES can practice a faith that is so ****ing insane that it doesn't even believe in certain scientific fact about the history of the planet we inhabit...how is this real life?

Pretty sure all major religions deny scientific facts about the birth of the universe. Obv Mormons are further up the scale of bat**** insane religions.

expect buddhism. at least tibetian buddhism. the dalai lama actively supports and encourages science to reseach in that field. a good read f.ex. about this is his book: The Universe in a Single Atom: The Convergence of Science and Spirituality

oh and lol that Carlin video is great

don't underestimate the stupidity of the average person, especially the average person in the US.

even someone who's considered kind of a clown on 2+2 is smart in the context of the general population.

edit: i ran into a moron on the subway a while back who was harassing me about some religious idiocy. we got into a discussion about evolution. i asked him, "if you think evolution is a made-up theory (lol), then how do you explain fossils?" guy was like, "god put them there to throw us off, obviously." these guys will say anything. must be nice to essentially be eight years old your entire life.

My fondest memory from college in the south(Clemson) was in a Biology in the News Class where we were talking about evolution.

A girl asked "which came first Jesus or the dinosaurs?"

Then another girl talked about how God put the fossils in the ground for us to find and that dinosaurs never really existed.

Religion is such a joke and I share the thought that it is sad how brainwashed people are from the get go. That has been a somewhat hot topic for me as I have a now 7 month old daughter and I am heavily against introducing her to it in any meaningful way. My in-laws however are quite religious so i have to tread lightly.

For those of you who love religious based comedy, i would recommend following Ricky Gervais on twitter, hes a very outspoken atheist who interacts and attacks religious theory/lunatics on a pretty regular basis. A lot of gold there.

A great quote Gervais tweeted out a few weeks ago.

"Live a good life. If there are gods and they are just, then they will not care how devout you have been, but will welcome you based on the virtues you have lived by. If there are gods, but unjust, then you should not want to worship them. If there are no gods, then you will be gone, but...will have lived a noble life that will live on in the memories of your loved ones.”

-Marcus Aurelius

If everyone just followed this the world would be a much better place.

IMO these days "atheists" have become just as preachy and judgemental as the ideologies they're criticizing. So many quotes on my feeds these days from Gervais, Dawkins etc, I don't know why believing in something automatically means ****ting on something else, why can't people just be cool with what they're doing in themselves....

Its hard not to be preachy and judgemental vs such stupidity especially when it negatively affects others.

Its not really. You just don't be preachy and judgemental. See, its easy. And most of the pro atheist just takes stuff absurdly out of context to prove a point, its really dumb, and i'm not even pro religion....

I'm always having a hard time when people mistake the concept of religion with the conecept of churches which is obv not the same. I'm pretty much facepalming at the catholic church all the time and I'm not religious, but I've also seen a lot of good things coming from it i.e. my Mum getting some comfort out of it when my Dad passed away.
And stop arguing that it's an outdated concept, that's plain bull****. People will always search for something bigger or sth they can believe in, be it as simple as sports or even science. But yeah, it's obv pretty easy to hate on it.

Completely unrelated: How is HEM2 doing these days?

I get super annoyed with these preachy atheist. Even more annoyed then with preachy Christians. A trip to the atheist reddit is like watching a corny joke stealing standup comedian. It makes me cringe.

If you believed today that the world was flat, that would be an outdated concept right? Because of the advancement in science and human knowledge we know that is not the case, but people hundreds of years ago had absolutely no way of knowing it. How do a lot of religious concepts not fall under this transformation from a concept that was widely believed to be true to a something that is disproven by science?

You misunderstood, I wasn't talking about dogmatic beliefs or principals. I mean, we'll agree that beliefing in a word-for-word interpretation of the bible which was written and put together by some old white guys is just dumb.
But I fail to see how our technological and scientific advances changed anything about basic, essential questions. And yes, religion still gives some answers to these questions (not saying these are good answers ldo)

Man, stop making me defend religion T_T
