Ya I'm just happy to be having a good day, but you're right

Same thing here. They actually have me listed as a winner now. LOL

OK, woot for guessing close. I almost typed in .260, but I hedged and put .260-.265, lol.

But I still don't understand. You can't draw an EV line for the pitcher... there are too many variables. Its an EV plane. The EV plane for the pitcher and the EV plane for the batter intersect in a line between .250 and .300. But I still don't understand how you get it down to a point.

Now whats interesting is that the Nash Equilibrium is actually the same for each player, guess fastball 4/5 of the time, and then it moves back to the EV cross section (un exploitable), but if either player is not doing the 4/5 strategy, the other player can exploit it.
I know the Nash equilibrium mostly by name, not in practice. Which probably explains why I couldn't solve this one.

Oh snap, I see the equilibrium now. The slope of each plane is zero along the perpendicular tangent to the intersection line. At 20% for each.

How do I compute that and not find it by trial and error (or reading the back of the book)?

I actually mis spoke, draw a probability curve of one of the players implementing a mixed strategy and the other one either always guessing fastball or always guessing curveball. Then the intersection of to curves is the equilibrum (saddle point).

you can compute it using the probability curves then using some partial diffentials and solve the two equations where they both equal zero....OR you can just draw the line and see where they intersect.

Nice. TY.
02-06-2009 , 08:26 PM
I never tried to use Differential to solve that problem....its been 10 years since I used it.

serious question...
does the....ummmm...."cat under the desk" method really help with tilt?
02-07-2009 , 12:35 AM
I know the "my cat finds a way to unplug my computer every time I go deep in a tourney" method certainly does not.

Please contact us at support@pokertracker.com." If I click OK, I get, "Unable to connect to the hand history database. 999-SQLSTATE=IM002 {Microsoft}{ODBC Driver Manager} Data source name not found and no default driver specified. Since one of the reasons I needed to increase my C drive was to upgrade to PT3, I downloaded the trial of PT3, (without PostgreSQL).

On the Configure PostSQL Server box, I've tried to enter the password I have written down from the first installation and get the message, "Unable to connect to this database. Please check the configuration.

I submitted this last night, about 19 hours ago - no reply yet.

I'm in the process of trying to install HEM right now. If I succeed, we will have proof there is a God!
Sounds like the messed up the db drivers somehow. Was going to suggest reinstalling Postgre and PT, but HEM seems to be working so go with that
