How the hell can Antonius make that call?
02-23-2009 , 12:14 AM
I don't think it's that hard of a call - cause Laak would check most of his made hands (including all Queens and most kings) on the river.

so his range is really strong hands (sets and AA) or bluffs. he probably wouldn't bet so much to get a call with his really strong hands. and the fact that there's a lot of busted flush draws means there would be even more bluffs in his range

His range looks like it's mostly bluffs in that spot

Ugh.....3 nasty bad beats in the span of like 5 minutes.

JJ < 99 on J8TxQ all in on the turn
35 < 58 on 467 board vs an aggrotard
KK < QTo on TxxTA when I tried to get some damn value from my hand by flat calling a steal from the blinds...I c/r the flop he calls, turn makes me sick

I learned the inner mind of a donk courtesy of my dad.

He knows I play poker and make some money and wanted me to teach him how to play. So I get him set up online and transfer $5 for 1c/2c fun. 1 table obviously.

The first 1/2 hour goes something like this:
wut's position?...... do not get it.
A2offsuit, that's good right?

Me: No, you are OOP (oh nevermind) and you have no kicker.
I'm not playing this hand for the kicker, I'm playing the Ace.
ok now we have 3 3s (set)

Me: Raise ldo
ok --> clicks "raise" for an expert minraise to 4c
ok now we have a "set" again, you said raise sets right?

Me: yup
ok now how do you raise more?
Me: click the slider or type in a number
................. time out
Me: sigh.
What happened? I think I'll just click the raise button from now on the way it is. They don't give you enough time.
Me: Why don't we fire up some limit 1c/2c?
ok what's the difference?

I will never teach 1c/2c again. Especially to PC noobs.

This was a very good learning experience for me though. I am thoroughly convinced now that there are people out there just trying to figure out the slider bar and worrying about hitting the button they want to hit without timing out while playing only 1 of 2 cards in their hand nevermind actually thinking about the game at all. And these same people that we consider to be droolers online can actually be really really smart irl, but are just insanely incompetent when it comes to anything technological or somewhat strategic in a counter-intuitive sense.

For some reason this does not compute as he always pwns me at chess, checkers, stratego, risk, mastermind, trivial pursuit and monopoly.

KurtSF, I appreciate your response! This is some good stuff and I will make adjustments and see how it goes. This may be easier then making some new FR friends hahaha

Yeah it's a marathon not a sprint

Btw, I think you run good, made me flop my first set in two days yesterday. And I sucked out against a set even though he played it bad, but never the less, I SUCKED OUT. Yeah baby, ONE TIME ONE TIME!!!!!!!
02-23-2009 , 11:08 AM
lol

nice line:
it's a marathon, not a sprint

it's just hard to keep remembering that when you keep losing
but well, it's a learning curve

Not necessarily. I was actually just watching an old HSP yesterday where Negreanu and Laak were heads up and Laak made a huge bet on the river with set. Daniel called him partially because he couldn't figure out why Laak would bet so much with a monster in that spot.
02-23-2009 , 04:14 PM
I know why Antonius made the call,
laak looked weak, for a second he went into "please don't call me"

His body language really messed it up for him

another sign was that he forgot to go into "Unabomber"-mode, always when he plays a hand that decent he is going into unabomber mode

But yeah,
I am high-sensitive, I see stuff like that -)

Just updated the FAQ, please let me know if I missed anything. Kthanks.

A ton of videos added, we now have a pretty big stockpile. However, actually very few for 2NL and 5NL (only one 2NL video). If anybody wants to make a video that sticks out, I think there's a niche there especially now that FTP has added lower stakes too. Particularly a video exploiting the deep stack play at these stakes...

I don't know if it's too much work, but last time I went through the old video stickies like 80% were dead links. Any chance you can take the still working links and compile them into the new videos and just ditch the old stickies? Just a suggestion for the newer members, might make things easier for them.

If I ever get a new computer I'll definitely make a 5NL video.
02-23-2009 , 04:45 PM
Do you mean the links to the threads are busted or the video links within the threads (megaupload, etc) are dead?

If the former, I will certainly go through and fix those. If the latter, I doubt I'll take the time to go through and download all those videos but if anyone wants to PM me if they find any bad ones I'll be happy to pull them from the FAQ.

(Actually, I'll add that to the FAQ so hopefully people can PM me as they go).
02-23-2009 , 04:50 PM
You might also PM the video maker and ask them to bump their thread by rehosting the video.
