I was referring to Edison's way of use the court system in loosely related patent disputes, effectively blocking a good part of competition. It's okay to protect one's own inventions but to attack others who might create something better...
So patent abuse at courts is nothing new - Edison did it in late 1800s. One might say he was deservedly a genius and ahead of his time. Or one might say that the economic power struggle strategies of the day have not evolved in 130 years.
