What are you doing at 5NL?
It's basically a coinflip if, say, you have Ace high flush draw to their overpair. Say, AsQs v. KhKc on 8s6s2h board. You have your nine outs to draw to the flush and also 3 aces for a better pair. 12 outs=~48%, approximately a coinflip.
If he has JhJc, you now have 15 outs, as your queens will be good, too, giving you ~60% for slight favorite.
I'm sure you know all this, but I'm guessing this is what was meant by the person who told you that a long time ago.
Edit: Okay, was just using 2 and 4 times rules. According to pokerstove, its 45% against kings, and 54% against jacks. Still pretty close to flipping.
