low volume players aren't going to get nearly as much out of this as higher volume players. if he has a choice of who he's going to coach it only makes sense to give it to someone who will make maximal value out of it. otherwise he's just wasting his time.

Just in case anyone wonders if they can put in 25-30k hands, here's a typical week for me:

Monday
9 a.m. wake up
9:30-6? work

Tuesday
9 a.m. wake up
9:30 a.m. - midnight work
12:30 a.m. - 1 a.m. get home (half hour drive)

Wednesday
9 a.m. wake up
9:30-6 work
9 p.m.-2 a.m. home game half hour from work/half hour back to my house)

Thursday
off, put in tons of hands

Friday
Either work 9:30-9 or 5-1:30

Saturday
Work 5-1:30

Sunday
work 5-1

and if you're not following along, back to work 9:30 Monday morning.

When it's all over, it's like 55 hour work weeks + 6 hours of driving. That's 61/128 hours in a week gone for work. Let's say I average 6 hours of sleep/night, that's 42. That leaves like 25 hours/week I have to eat/play poker/visit friends/home game/jerk it/shower/whatever.

I usually cut back on the sleeping hours to hit it. I discovered if you take a multi-vitamin, you're more energetic all day. It's the equivalent of energy shots/drinks, but with no crash.

Come on slackers, play some hands.

... and I work for the DoD and travel 25%, so I can't play that week... at all. PStars on a gov't laptop would kiiiinda jeopardize my jobness.

But yeah, I could put in that many hands if I really really wanted to, I just don't. If I put in 50k hands a year I'm happy.

In the end, it boils down to what you're happy with. If you like sitting down in free time and playing a couple hours every week, then stick with that. Don't try to be what others are.
