and the whole lack of scoring thing, which probably has a lot (if not everything) to do w/ why americans don't like soccer, can be looked at in 2 ways. surely, its always more exciting to watch high-scoring games, in any sport. i'd always rather watch a 4-3 game over a 1-0 any day of the week and twice on sundays.

but the other way to see it is that every goal is so difficult to get and therefore so much more damn valuable/awesome when it happens. as opposed to basketball, where scoring is literally every other possession, it sort of waters the value of scoring down imo. (coming from a lifelong fan)

and in football (american) theres not a whole lot more scoring. just the point totals skew it to appear that way. also factor in that each game takes ~3.5hrs to complete (almost double a soccer game). i think i read somewhere where they said if u were to compare soccer and football by the scoring in relation to the time elapsed, soccer would actually have a higher rate. just something to think about.
