Bought this for like $315 including tax + Amazon Prime shipping overnighted.

He is talking rush homie. Its probably about 800 for the average guy(don't have db handy at the moment) that's my guess for 6max.

pretty solid idea for most girls (and probably the only types you'd be interested in seeing).

I'm going to AC this week, getting staked by my best friend, who's like a brother.

So this is my question (w/ some background 1st): he's in a bit of a bind w/ his financial situation (in debt and trying to pay it back timely) but can afford to put up a stake for me on the 1/2 tables.

If I'm not mistaken, the "standard" agreement would be something like 50/50 w/ MU. However, due to our relationship, and his situation currently, I'm doing this as a way to try and make him some money (especially since he has done many a favor for me), and I know he wouldn't ask for me to pay him back if I was to lose (aka no makeup).

So what would be "fair" considering that this is at least if not more to do with trying to help him make some dough than it is for me to make profit?

I don't feel too comfortable just throwing out a number b/c neither of us has done this w/ anyone before, let alone w/ each other and in these circumstances. So it's kind of a fragile situation.

Any suggestions are appreciated.
It's live poker, you can't lose.

Yeah actually this.

With my aim and posting on forums, I still probably get 800 hands an hour. If I was focusing just on poker, probably a little more.

nah its prob over 1k/hr. i was 2 tabling rush a little while back and getting a little over 700/hr. so i wouldn't be surprised to see a 1200/hr type figure for 4 rush tables.
08-17-2010 , 10:15 AM
You would have to be pretty damn nitty to play 1200. Fwiw I play like 25/23 when I play rush. Obv the more times you mash quickfold the more hands/hour. Also it slows you down quite a bit going from 2 to 4 tables. I would guess that those 14/12 guys that used to 16 table could very easily hit 1200, but I am a slow old man who times out a lot and plays lots of hands.
08-17-2010 , 10:23 AM
checked and I play just shy of 1k/hr, but I often sit out and take breaks so it probably is 1k

I was looking at amazon and found this, but I have no idea how good/bad it is. I would want to be able to play poker on it while running PT3, but really don't know crap about computers and have no idea if this laptop could do that or not.

iirc eMachines are made by acer
this has a small HD in it with a bad processor imo, spend a bit more of an amount for a better lappy, you wont regret it

if he just wants to play poker and not run SCII or whatever then it doesn't really matter. That said, i would want a bigger screen for poker or hook up to secondary monitor.

5,400rpm drive = yuck

Well I am going back to school next week and was wanting something cheap to use while I have to kill time between classes and/or waiting for my car pool people to get done with class. And I wanted to be able to play some poker from time to time. And if this computer can do that, then that would work for me, but if its going to lag all over then I don't want any part of it.

Celeron processors, will have a hard time with windows 7, esp if it doesnt have a considerable amount of ram.
that said a 160gb hd will not last long with a pt3 database of any size (mine is almost 120gbs, and by no means a massive one).
Yes it will work, likely quite laggy, and annoying as fark.
08-17-2010 , 02:42 PM
its not blazing fast but it should be able to handle pt3 and poker but thats about it

that's what she said

You should delete the log files. That's probably why your DB is 120gb. I've got a few hands in mine and it's <10gb.
08-17-2010 , 03:02 PM
ya lol 120gigs is hugeee
08-17-2010 , 03:03 PM
no doubt, having 120gigs in a db is a beat
08-17-2010 , 03:28 PM
For sure, PT3 leaves logging on. I have seen 120gb DBs with 80 - 100gb of log files.

Logging:

I would suggest you turn off logging on any SQL install as well as some basic tuning.

http://faq.holdemmanager.com/questio...tgreSQL+Tuning

To turn off logging, follow these instructions. This is the first thing I do anytime I install SQL for someone.

- Start > My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > View > UnCheck 'Hide Extensions for known file types' > OK

- C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\data\postgresql.conf > Right-Click > Open With.. > NotePad > Check 'Always use this program'

- Scroll about half way down to ~Lines 245 - 260:

- The last line of this block of code, for the 'logging_collector', must be changed from On to Off.

HTML Code:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
# ERROR REPORTING AND LOGGING
#------------------------------------------------------------------------------

# - Where to Log -

log_destination = 'stderr' # Valid values are combinations of
                    # stderr, csvlog, syslog and eventlog,
                    # depending on platform. csvlog
                    # requires logging_collector to be on.

# This is used when logging to stderr:
logging_collector = off # Enable capturing of stderr and csvlog

File > Save; File > Close

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL 8.3 > Reload Configuration.

- Start > My Computer > C:\Program Files\PostgreSQL\data\pg_log, or C:\Program Files (x86)\PostgreSQL\data\pg_log, if you have 64 bit Vista. Delete all files in that folder. And it might be a good idea to empty your recycle bin at that point, or use a 3rd party utility like CCleaner to clean up all your junk/temporary files. You want to do this before you get to the vacuum and defrag process.

Regarding database maintenance:

PT3 and HM (now) has built in DB Maintenance steps you should run once a month or more. You should defrag at least once a month also.

You need to Stop the PostgreSQL service so the Defragmenter can Defrag the Database.

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL 8,4 > Stop Server

Open Smart Defrag > Select both drive letter checkboxes > Analyze

Pick suggested Defrag process > Start Defrag

After Smart Defrag finishes you should restart your computer.

If you need to use HM before you restart your PC, then you need to Start Server.

Start > Programs > PostgreSQL 8,4 > Start Server

HM and PT3 DB's, with logging off, usually store about 100 - 150k hands per GB of SQL\Data, so a 10gb DB should be 1 - 1.5 million hands. 1 million hands in text file form are usually about 1gb.
