When it comes to rap, jay-z AINEC.

I can't agree at all. I think if we compared our top 5 favorite emcee's it would look diametrically opposite. Tell me what about Wayne do you like? Do you think he's a dope lyricist?

I like HOV, but he is what he is. He's a commercially successful emcee who's sold the lifestyle better than almost anyone. He's an ok lyricist but certainly not one of the best of all time for wordplay.

IMHO my top 10 lyricist's of all time:

1) Big L
2) Kool G Rap
3) Nas
4) Eminem
5) Canibus
6) Biggie Smalls
7) Mos Def
8) Talib Kweli
9) Chali 2na
10) Pharoah Monche

Somewhere after that is probably Big Pun, Joel Ortiz, Black Thought, Royce Da 5' 9", Brother Ali, Lupe Fiasco, Jada Kiss, also Ludacris deserves a mention.

I still don't get the Buffalo portion.
Eh, I'll try not to corrupt them much. My family's pretty conservative. My great-great grandparents were amish.

Buffalo is a city in New York.

weezy's nice, but I just wish all his fans would stop saying he's the best rapper (alive) and all that...so tilting to hear that. If you're trying to hear some metaphors w/ catchy beats/hooks, hes nice. Beyond that, meh. nothing there imo. (coming from an old school cash money/hot boys fan)
Thats why Jay's the best imo. Found a way to balance the ability to make commercial/mainstream hits and "keep it real". When i was a noob that didn't actually LISTEN to the entirety of music, only what was being fed to me on radio/tv, I used to hate on him too, "oh hes so fake. so commercial. etc etc". Then I actually started listening for substance, not solely for head-bobbing purposes.

PM me your AIM name and I'll send you some real rap.

Em's old stuff is classic. The way he uses multi-syllabic rhymes and continues to speak a fluid stream of consciousness is unreal.

All respectable emcee's for sure. I'm not a big Q-Tip fan but I know a lot of people who like the Abstract. Andre 3K and Big Boi are dope. Their style is crazy unique.
Back when Mark Wahlberg was Marky Mark
This is how we used to make the party start
We used to mix hen' with Bacardi Dark
And when it kicks in you can hardly talk
And by the sixth gin you gon' probably crawl
And you'll be sick then and you'll probably barf
And my prediction is you gon' probably fall
Either somewhere in the lobby or the hallway wall

ILL!

FYP.
I know what ur trying to say (i think). And judging by your list it seems like ur into the "conscience rap" genre. I like a lot of those name u said too, but imo hov is the total package.
He used to rap pretty much strictly in the conscience style, but eventually he adjusted/fine-tuned his delivery into being able to be appreciated by random radio listeners and at the same time by those who loved that original style from reasonable doubt (his debut album, considered by many to be his best work. And it didn't sell well, go figure.)

I would say my list is 50% conscience and 50% straight gangster ****. Big L. Biggie, (early) Nas, Kool G Rap... That's that grimy gully hip hop.

Before this last Slaughterhouse Album and the new Royce Album these two may have been the most complete lyrical albums in the last 20 years. Start to finish classic disgusting lyricism.

Worst thing about hip hop... people being snobby about who they listen to and thinking that whoever they listen is obviously the best.

People do this with all genre's of music. Hip Hop by nature is the most competitive form of music. Battling is ingrained in it's roots so naturally the listener will form their own opinion and carry on in some small way that competitive nature.

def has this in all genres. i used to deal w/ it all the time in the screamo genre. or whoever found out about the band first and told a friend about it would always claim it as "their" band like they have been listening to them since the start or smthng. annoying.
