Any of you ever run so bad for so long that you doubted your ability? Was there anything you did to help yourself out of your funk?
I notice when I'm running really poorly that its a sometimes a combination of bad cards and bad play...or just bad play from the frustration of not winning.

I'll generally take a day or two off of playing and it generally refocuses my game.

Me too - wish I didn't get up yesterday morning to play. Went down a bunch, had to go out as needed a break/tilted. Came back had a few coolers, managed to get lucky and finished up a few buy-ins. Came back later in the evening and lost all afternoon profit + more, came back this morning - more coolers/bad play = downswing:9 BI, I don't feel so good considering how long it took me to make at FR.

I'm down 12 buy ins over my last 60k hands, a feat that in and of itself is not remarkable. I realize that for a lot of people around here that's 1 or two months of play. My biggest issue and what is really causing me to play bad and press is that this run has been since last Sept. The actual number of months for me has been the hardest thing to deal with. In fact after getting face slammed with coolers this past weekend I was about ready to just pull out most of my roll and go back to playing the penny tables. So what do you do?

1. Keep sloggin and play more to get through it faster.

I can't play a ton of hands every month because I'm not willing to uspet other areas of my life (Family, work, etc...) to play enough hands to pull out of a bad run quickly.

I also know that I tilt and so forcing myself to play more is not a good Idea. I become a calling station falling for the old "I can't possibly be beat again, and of course I am." at times.

2. Take time off and try to recoup.

I do this through my schedule. I only play 15 days a month. Just enough to make Bronze Iron man. This is also due to the fact that I just am not willing to carve out more time for poker.

3. Reevaluate your game. Talk to others, sweat sessions.

This, for me, is the best way to go about getting through a downswing. I've never been one to completely blame a downswing at the stakes I play on variance. I know I have too many leaks. Going back over my hands during this swing, if I'm honest with myself, I should probably be within a couple buy ins of breakeven. There is atleast a couple times each month that I could have saved between 60 to 80bbs by folding when I probably should have. No glory in folding right?

This is why constantly reviewing your game is so necessary. This does more for me though when I'm going through a downswing. It gives me something I can actively work on that will improve my game. It gives me a reason to want to play. Cause realistically, even though I dropped 5 buy ins this past weekend, my actual play, with the exception of probably one hand was better than it has been. So I was happy about that! Wat? Well at least after I calmed down a bit.

Anyway. Poker is a game of discoveries. I always discover more about my game when I hit a rough patch. The problem is, you need to find out what works best for you, cause we all handling things differently.

Good luck and don't let the bad beats get you down

what's your screenname huck?

btw do you guys think playing a 20/17/3 is too loose for FR micros? today i played at 8 tables and all of them fillled with 10/6/3'ish nits. They got the best of me today, win small pots and lose big pots rinse and repeat. After that i went to the local B&M and took home 7BI's at 2-4NL shipit.

I'm pretty sure that if you can't figure out how to unlock your cap key, you don't have much of a chance.

imo

Can I join in on this thread if I promise to not use all caps?

I put $150 onto tilt and ran it up to $215 and am playing 10NLFR (bustoMoe)

ok I'm gonna quit being a douche now my screen name is huckfelmuth on Full Tilt Poker. I'm playing 50nl, I did play bottomset at 1/2, I was a dick there and hit and ran him but I do believe I have an edge HU against him and I do believe I am the best 50nl FR reg on Full Tilt at this time. I routinely start anywhere up to 10 deep tables and have played up to 5 HU matches simultaneously against different people while also playing another 10 full tables. I will play any 50nl FR Full Tilt reg HU if we 4-table at least 50nl.

I just started playing poker a month or so ago had a friend who plays regularly at 400nl and up is helping me out. Hopefully I can move up fast but I do not have dillusions of playing Dwan and Galfond any time soon. I think they are both very good and I actually despise FullFlush and hope he takes Durrrr challenge and gets sent home packing by Dwan. Just thought it would be kind of entertaining to see how people reacted to it. Anyway see you all at the tables.

Last night I fired up 12 tables and played for about 3 orbits before I realized I was at NL25 instead of the planned NL100....no wonder everyone was confused by my betsizes.

LOL, nice.

I've just noticed the nitiness is making me nitty as well. I'm running 12/11 for this session. My 3-bet is 7%. I'm stealing like crazy.

If I knew he had A hearts i'd have done something - i'm not a fan of river shove though. He said he was worried about full house anyway and he's a decent player so I doubt he'd call considering how little he's got in. Just surprised how nitty he was to just call river - I know i'd probably be popping the river.
