Going to open a FT account in January. Is it worth spending time carefully researching the various RB providers, or will I get pretty much the same deal from any of the sponsoring providers on 2+2?

The max possible rakeback is 27%, as long as you're getting that, I'd probably go with a bigger name so that you can rely on the money being there for a while.

several of the sites offer 4% rakeback for "sub-affiliates" -- i.e. your friend has you sign up through his affiliate page and he gets 4% of your MGR for the rest of your life. This doesn't change the maximum you are allowed to get (27%) but if you sign up with a friend it is possible for you each to refer the other and get 4% of their MGR. In case it is not perfectly clear, this 4% does not reduce your 27% in any way -- it is the rakeback affiliate's way of enticing you to recruit for them (same principle as rakeback in general). They give up 4% of the MGR that they are entitled to entice you to bring players to their site.

RakeReduction.com (sponsored 2+2 forum) offer this as do others.

I picked a random 2+2 acquaintance and had him create a RakeReduction landing page so that he could get 4% of my rake (that would otherwise go to the rakeback site).

If you want to donate your 4% to me, then sign up here.

What ever you do, don't sign up without at least seriously considering getting someone to receive that extra 4%!

Think I'll try and play like 1k hands of 2NL, 5NL, 10NL, 25NL, 50NL and 100NL and compare how they play.

I just finished my first NL10 session ever. In comparison to NL25 its like an easy walk in the park to me...

When I now although stop to pay the fish off at NL25 I have maybe a nice year end at the tables

raketherake referral works the same way. any member there can benefit when you use their member number as a "referral". Doesn't hurt your 27% share at all.
