I know you meant this as a joke, but in that case, this is exactly what the jury did--they sniffed out fraud. If you don't think those cops were running around planting evidence, I have a bridge in Brooklyn I'd like you to take a look at.
In all seriousness, there have been a lot of studies on this. It's been maybe 15 years since I looked at one, but, iirc, criminal juries reach a result experts agree was correct (either convicting the guilty or acquitting on insufficient evidence) pretty much 96% of the time or so.
