Watched a vid by Pokey, 'Art, Science and Poker: Pt 3' which dealt with blinds and blind defense.

When facing ATS, defend with all premiums (obv) and all pp's, sc's down to 54s or so. Pokey advocated a 4x3B as opposed to something smaller. This (and I'm paraphrasing the whole thing mind you!) attempts to alleviate some of the positional strength of the stealer (BTN/CO/HJ). Since he is most likely stealing with a vary wide range, he really isn't interested in playing a large pot HU with a blind with a "random hand". We all know his range is wide but he has no idea of what we hold.

On the flop, bet half pot. You take it down a surprising amount of times. Then sometimes you make 2 pair, trips, a set is a killer when you pop it with 22-88 and a bare Ace comes.

I backed off my 3b sizing out of the blinds from 4x to 3x on coaching advice. I'm also not playing back with a number of hands recommended by Pokey. Tonight I flatted a ****load of pp's in the blinds and BTN, and have <6% set-o-meter.

Really, if you play back and 3b with a wide variety, it is difficult for the "Stealer" to really know what you're holding as well.

I think you might have the more interesting things to talk about. How did you like New Orleans?

It can get annoying, but it's been a hidden blessing. I'm getting better and better at learning how to deal with these guys.

are there really adjusting regs at 10nl? how rigorously do you table select? sheeet games getting harder, i guess

I play deep tables. I sort the lobby by VPIP. I look for ones near the top of the list with big pot sizes. Works well for me. I don't do much more in terms of positioning myself. If a good seat opens up, (loose to right, tight to left) I jump over, but that's not always possible and I want to stay at the fishy table. If that means I have to deal with a light 3better from time to time, it's not a big deal. Usually these guys really have no idea what to do other than 3bet me once. They are lost if I don't fold. Often I can win it with a 4bet or a check/raise on the flop. Also, after losing a decent sized pot or two, they tend to give up 3betting light since they are seeing the unfavorable short term results. If it gets real bad, I'll leave, but there are so few people who adjust and even fewer people who do it well.

you seem a more than competent player. any plans to move up?

how many tables do you play at once?

yea, this is what i expected/experienced with 10nl when i played that stake/level.

thanks for the info. you post a lot and i enjoy reading what you write

I'm at about $400 now. I'll probably move up when I reach about $600ish. I hope to get a lot of quality time in this week.

I have a pretty big leak of trying to play while drinking or distracted by talking on the phone. I'd probably have another $100 if I didn't do that. I can't autopilot as I could at 5NL.

Appreciate the kind words.

first half is me making a profit, very much in SD winnings, non-SD winnings going down the basement from putting to much money in and then folding

Second half, I tried not to play so much OOP with marginal hands, play a little more aggressive with draws and IP in general. Got the non-SD stuff to become a flat line, but I started loosing all SD hands.

Yesterday I lost 2-pair vs set (maybe could have gotten away from that one, only one hand in his range that beat me though). Lost a boat vs a higher boat.

Edit: Think it will be good if I can keep the non-SD winnings where it is and I have to start winning at SD eventually.

I think my major adjustment will be to fold pocket aces preflop. I'm down -$30.30 with EV of $10.93. Doesn't account for a hand who I managed to string along with a worse PP and he caught a set on the river with like $1 remaining. The EV differential was zero since the final money went in on the river, but realistically it was a suckout.

I can't complain, though.
With KK, I've made $37.64 this month with EV of -24.72

I just need to stay focused while playing. If I do that, I can usually do real well. The major downswings on my graph this month are when I'm not completely focused. Mine is just up and down with a huge upswing at the end from my 9.5BI day yesterday.

My redline has been kind of stuck at even ever since I put in greater effort to table select for looser tables. I'm happy it's been even recently, though.

Anyone in this thread that's a NL25-50 reg that's interested in a sweat.. feel free to PM me. I get bored sometimes and I wouldn't mind helping a little bit if you're a struggling reg.

Uhhh, matt.......... you've told the unclean masses that it's OK to look beyond their own two cards.

What is the timeline on when they will forget this gem? I mean...if yer supposed to stay outta da water for a ˝ hour after a peanut butter and marshmallow sammich, do I need to wait a week before the playahs go back to playing straightforwardly? (like that word? )
