I think it has to do only a little bit with the x% edge you gain by shoving a suited hand fwiw. I think the following is the better explanation (not sure though):
How is this table set up? Well suppose we're 100bb's deep and we shove AA on our button and nothing else. Villain knows this. We shove. What's his callingrange? Obvious nothing else except AA (he should fold KK in this theoretical spot). What if we shove two hands - say - AA and 54s? He can obv call with AA again. Can he call with KK?

At this point calling with a LOT of hands will become ev+. Even 55 is an ev+ call now. It just has to do a lot more with the number of hand combo's, not the extra equity we have because of the suitedness.
