I'm a firm believer that the skill of internet poker isn't just in the "poker", it's in the "internet" too. I'll definitely ship back the equity to a friend, but out of courtesy not protocol. Him keeping the monies is standard, you sitting out when it happens to you shows an extra degree of honor and is commendable, but doesn't make people who take the "it evens out" approach douchey. From what I've read from durrr/Galfond etc taking advantage of the disconnect in cash is don't think twice mega-standard (not to use the "appeal to authority" fallacy or anything).

i've thought about this a bunch, and I don't think there is any reason for him to ship any money back. There are many people pay a decent amount of money for a backup internet service. They will almost never DC during a match. Why should they be responsible for giving you money back when your internet goes out?

I mean, if its someone you've played 100x or theyre a HU forum regular and you want to give back some money, thats purely out of the goodness of your heart. But i do not believe you should expect any money back when you DC.
05-03-2009 , 02:54 PM
and of course the person who DC'd is gonna say, "you know i'd send it back to you". The truth is, no one knows what you would do in the situation unless you've done it many times in the past.

If you were on a 20 buyin downswing, would you really send the guy his money back? Or would you blind him down fast bc you really wanna win a game.

Jayluf, this isn't directed at you personally. Just an open argument.

livb once did that vs me; i had a little over 1000 left; d/c and when i got back only 490 left; he raised to 450 i went all-in and he folded for 40 more which was imo
idk if i'd do it vs a random guy, but defenitly against a person i respect/know i would do it
05-03-2009 , 03:08 PM
I used to ship back anything I stole while they were gone, if they came back before it was over.

I quit doing it. I don't really feel bad about it, although I did feel extra-good when I did it in the past.

No recourse, he's fine for not sending back imo. Some poker sites don't even reimburse always when it's their fault, let alone you playing somebody and your connection being at fault. Not to mention he may not even know who you are, expect much of an edge to begin with, etc.

Vs two evenly matched players, a dc really favors you rather than him. He has to sit there and watch his hourly slowly dissipate bc of your connection.

That being said, guys like Livb and Camel have done this in the past, and I won't argue that it's not a nice gesture, but I would not expect it ever from anybody.

I've probably DC'd 40+ times in the past few years and I've never had anyone NOT blind me down. As a result, I've invested money in a back up connection, back up PC, etc., and it has saved me a lot of money.

I think that not blinding people down is throwing away money.
