Just wanted to jot some random things I have learned in my first year on 2p2, specifically geared toward uNL.
1. Get an aim entourage
And i dont mean just to talk poker. You get someones screen name and im them hands every time they sign on i promise youre not gonna end up friends. IMO, friends are one thing, friends who play poker are quite a whole new breed. Hand discussion is critical, and I dont mean posting replies in a thread. I mean really talking out a hand on all angles untill you dont wanna play anymore poker that day. Hell, they can even get you off monkey tilt. Obvi, other 2p2ers are perfect for this, but make sure you become friends, learn about their lives etc, maybe one day youll be winning 16 buy ins while staying at their baller crib
2. Post intelligently
at me saying this? I know, I dont mean in the brew. I mean in hand threads. I grow very tired of seeing one line replies like "I prob fold here" or "C/R ai". Obviously this statement has been said before, but attention spans are weak and repetition is the key. EXPLAIN YOUR FULL STANCE, GIVE HAND RANGES, STOVE IT IF YOU CAN!!! I especially would expect this from the uNL regs, but still I see stupid responses. If you want them to fold to a river c/r, explain WHY. PLZ. Its not hard, giving ur thought will make both you and the OP a better player in turn, and isnt that what were here for?
3. Sweat sessions
I know alot of you guys do these already, but those that dont, or dont often, get to it. Having aim buddies on 2p2 will help alot in this department. I can personally tell you that evthing i did accomplished half of what my first 3 sweats did. Its all about an outside opinion on the matter. In the actual game, we think a lil differently. Sweat someone else and have them sweat you, it will open up some new possibilities in your game, even if they suck
(now im gonna be realllllllly hippocritical)
4. PLAY DONT POST (LOL)
I am guilty of this ldo. Thac mentioned it in the brew, but it seems a lot of people put enjoying posts ahead of playing. Isnt playing what we all came here to learn about? My goal for the next year is to play more time than i post
. well see how that one goes
5. One random thought
From now on, everytime you are playing, when you make a bet/raise, stop and think "what worse calls, what better folds" Thats really all there is to this game, yet i see so many people 3bet shoving 88 on a 7 high board. These plays are not always optimal and i encourage everyone to say this one sentence out loud as ur playing, it will make u pwn the micros
meh, /random rant
if all else fails, my motto is, Do what Gelford says.
