calling pre would be better i think ;

bet smaller on flop that some worse hands than yours would also call.

I don't hate how you played it since you categorized him as a drooler.

But it's early in the game and you should be able to find better spots against this guy. Calling his raise seems like the best option to me.

Was he raising a lot of buttons?

3betting A9o is farily marginal, but I don't mind it if you're willing to shove or check the flop. What you don't want to be doing is 3betting and then making a normal-sized c-bet on a lot of flops into a drooler that calls super wide.

I would have shoved this flop rather than making a psb that commits us anyway. If villain calls wide it's tough to let go after c-betting and getting flatted, so why not just exploit villain's wide calling and get called by worse pretty often when we have TP on a dangerous board?
