It’s my understanding that players intuitively know heuristics and how they change with each position. BUT it seems like there’s so many of them, because they change so varyingly on different board textures…

So whilst I assume that good players just filter through the noise and reduce their thought-process to a very simple, bullet-point understanding of the overarching theories… How the hell are they able to do this for heuristics when they vary so much on different board textures?

Does anyone know the answer? Been stuck on this for a while…

Most strategies in poker stem from the same few ideas. If you find you have to completely change the way you look at the game depending on texture or spot, your understanding of the game is probably not deep enough yet

There’s a lot of noise to filter through, as I’m sure you’ll understand. I know that my knowledge is lacking, but there’s also a general lack of direction on all of these nodes. Finding ‘the same few ideas’ you’re describing (and their applicability), in a blueprint-like manner, is a particularly difficult task, no?

Yes, no one is going to fully lay it down for you, you have to piece things together yourself to some extent by studying a lot

All the different textures and ramifications might seem overwhelming and they are but just like anything difficult you play and study enough and you notice how ideas learnt in one area of the game can be transported to others. You might, for example, study a common spot like BU 3b CO, and then use that strategy as a place holder for BU 3b HJ and BU 3b UTG because it will be reasonably similar.

When you advance to solvers it's useful to study 3b pots first for this exact reason, SRP ranges can be too overwhelming. Break down all the things

You also have to play enough so that basic mechanical things like pot odds and relative value are more second nature to fee up space in situ in your brain for texture/ranges etc.

don't get overwhelmed by all the mixing u see solvers do, a lot of it is just to prevent inhumanly precise exploits by a clairvoyant opponent, u can create ur heuristics much more freely
