BRAG+BEAT TLDR: I just played Taylor Caby HU4ROLLZ...lost...but learned valuable lesson :)

Hey guys, I'm posting this here because I'm most well known here in the micro FR. I might post this in bbv also, im not sure.. So anyways, I was just doing my usual 12 tables of 50nl grind, and then I decided to watch Taylor Caby play some HU, he was playing $10/$20. I decided to ask him a question. So I asked him something along the lines of, I am a huge nit and I've been breaking even at 50nl for like 2 months and I hate my life, got any tips for me? Then he said that I should do something really crazy, and that the adrenaline rush of it, would give me a new outlook on life. Well, I took his advice to heart, and I said to him something along the lines of, "Okay, So you mean I should play you HU for my entire bankroll?"

He said something like, "yeah you should, it would be a good experience for you" or something like that. So then I sat down with the $1400 i had in my fulltilt account and I started playing. He had a $12k stack lol... My heart was pounding at first, then I won like a $600 pot with a rivered quads, which I should have bet more on the river but meh, he prolly woulda called more but I figured $100 would get called by most of his small/med pairs. I coulda got away with like $175-$200 tho....But I wasn't thinking clearly obviously, was just trying hard to not play scared. Then I didnt get any cards for a while, he light 3bet me a few times, after a few hands I was getting short and raised it up with QT, flop was KKx, I cbet, he called, turn was J, and at this point I have a pot sized bet left on the turn and decided its my last hope and I have to shove, I expected to have at least some fold equity, plus I have the oesd. He calls, and has KJ for the nuts and I'm drawing dead.

So I lost, but I feel so much better now. I have a new outlook on life, just like he said. I had a taste of how it feels to play high stakes, and to be honest...once you get into it, the dollar value doesn't really affect you mentally. I found it just felt like I was playing with chips and I didn't think about the actual dollar value of what was happening. It was a great feeling.

In the end, he asked me if that was actually my entire BR on the table, and i said yes it is, he said "really are you sure???" and I said, "Yes, I took your advice to heart and thanks for the match". Then he said "wow, ok I'm gona send you $1k back, and he shipped me $1k and said "be smart with it and don't do anything stupid like that again". LOL I guess I'm grateful that he gave me $1k, but to be honest, I knew before hand that if I lost, it was gonna be ok.. because as soon as I sat down at the table, I knew it was going to be an important experience, and I felt like I had to do it. I decided before hand that I was going to play until I either busted, or took his stack. If I lost, I was gonna have to quit poker for a while and go get a job, but I would have a great experience, OR I would win a few $K and learn a lesson. Either way I'm happy. I just felt like sharing this story with you guys.

Cliffs:

-Asked my favorite CR pro Taylor Caby for advice on how to stop being such a life nit.
-He tells me to do something crazy because it will get my adrenaline going and it will give me a new outlook on life.
-I take his advice to heart and decide to play him hu4rollz
-I lose but have fun experience and learn valuable lesson

[x] Taylor Caby is good at poker.

I think you should ship him $500 back for being cool enough to ship $1k for no reason.

Also, I think you should take a couple days away from the tables and meditate on this, as this post could also be titled "How to create a degenerate gambler in 3 easy steps".

How's your golf game?

Yeah true, I felt like it had to be done. It's not something I would do again. I just needed to do something truly crazy like he said. He was right, I wish I could have realized this long before. He is my hero. As for my golf game. Golf season is over where I am right now, course closed a week ago

Taylor Caby is a class act. Obviously felt bad about conning someone into really playing for their roll.

Definitely don't expect that any other pro is going to do this for you.

I love poker because of moments like that. Moments like that amongst complete and utter riverly, no matter if its your friends or close family. You want that pot, whoever you are sharing it with.

And then there is this... 2p2, uNL forums, and Caby.

I am bit worried that you felt that you needed to do this. But I am glad it worked out. You got to play against a top class pro so that has some major entertainment / life story value. Caby is obv a class act giving you back your roll. I don't know how much your roll means to you, but if I was in a situation that is pretty much guaranteed in me losing my roll I would never do it.

Me: Hey Daniel Negreanu, would you hang out with me for an hour. I'll pay you 2k.
Daniel: Make it 5k.
Me: Ok. But you are paying for the beers.

Yeah not gona happen...

This. However, you have an awesome story and you got to play a top pro.

The advice to consider the experience carefully is a very good one. You are on a high right now. Give your brain time to assimilate everything.

(Also, there is a part of me that wants to high five you for playing him HU4Rollz like that!!)

Taylor Caby still got $400 bucks for his time. It was practically a gift. After all, what micro player in his right mind would give action to a pro by putting his entire bankroll on the line?

Very nice of him to give you $1k back... brag

So did you learn any poker?

I've really got no idea how to play HU. Seems as hard as hell.

I've had a ton of respect for Taylor for as long as I've known of him, this is just another drop in a solid human being bucket.

FWIW it was a horrific idea for you to play HU4ROLLZ. If you wanna do something extreme take a few BI to like PLO50 or something.

All you do by losing your bankroll is create a degen gambler that doesn't care if he loses it all because he can make it back.
