Playing AK is either much more complicated than I would have thought, or much simplier than I would have thought. I'm bookmarking this thread.
If I were to write a book on how to play AK it would say this on every page for about 500 pages:

AK is very simple. Flop a pair!

3-bet a loose player for value/Fold equity and call a tight player's raise. Never go all-in pre unless you have a dead on read or if the opponent is short stacked and he is pushing light!.

Posts like this make me really hate myself for only switching to cash within the last year or so. The only shorthanded cash I know is post UIEGA. How did I waste three years of my poker playing life playing sngs.

Are there ANY situations today where it's correct to fold AK preflop these days? I imagine there are some, but it's gotta be rare, and i dont think people on this forum do it often, if ever.

Also, what do you think about sometimes just flatting 3 bets w/ AK, like TWP said? Is this viable today? If so, in what situations?

FFS when I read this I thought poker had just gone back in time 3 years and I was about to get rich (and stake CTS).

Holy good lord lol.

I read the first three posts or so, realised this must be a ninja bump, and looked at post dates. But wow. This reminds me of some ninja bumped threads in STTF back when I used to play SNGs. It was unbelievable how bad the advice was.

in order to make this thread relevant for today's games you'd simply have to substitute AK with AQ (or even AJ vs really loose 3-bettors). i wonder if everyone will auto-get-it-in with AT some day

I flat fold AK to reraises sometimes these days, but the situation has to be very right, e.g. an 8 PFR guy reraising me out of the SB when I have raised UTG.

I don't really flat it to threebets at all, but I actually don't think it's a bad play to throw in your repertoire. I've been tarped a few times by trying to bluff people off Kxx flops because I assume their hand can't be that good.

I thought this thread was a level and some good players chimed in and continued the level.

After a while I realised it was 2 years old.
