Not really sure what to make of this spot here. Villain is 22/9/39 through 64 hands and my gut feeling here is that his raise in all likelihood means some pair/draw combo. That being said I'm not a big favorite and even a slight dog vs that range so was you you think is the best line here? Is my read off base given the numbers the villain has?

This is a spot I have a ton of trouble with as well. I usually call then evaluate the turn. If the turn is a blank (no flush no A), I call a bet or throw out a blocking bet of half pot to 3/4 pot and take the showdown. If they can fire the third barrel and I don't improve I probably fold.

Also, you have blockers to the open ender, which makes it much easier to call.

I would raise more on the flop myself, probably like 1.25 - 1.40
Recently I have been folding these spots to such a raise, even if I were to call the flop raise, there are many turn cards I don't want to see. I would end up in a harder spot than the flop. Though an eight and a jack are probably the only two cards I would like to see.

Not sure if this is the right thing to do....

he is raising for protection and for value as you are repping the top of your range. I doubt if you are ahead of anything here.

Agreed but I think that your ahead here a lot of the time. I can see him doing this with 88 or with a pair, fd combo. No ones going to overbet the pot like that with a set or a made str8 so he would have to have JJ-AA to really be behind here and I just don't see him flatting those hands preflop.
That being said I would probably flat call and evaluate the turn.

not sure what range you want me to assign, but I can't find anyone that we are "clearly ahead of"

I think this is a spot to just let it go, even if you do hit your straight you only have 3 outs because there is a chance he's on the flush draw. You should be thinking one street ahead and thinking "Can I stand another bet if I miss and if I hit my straight/trips do I feel comfortable getting it in?"

To either question the answer is no, so I'm letting this spot go and looking for a better one.

Against a player like this (his vpip being very gapped from his pfr), he is never going to barrel this board more than once without a stones throw short of the nuts. The answer against this type of villain is flat this bet, and fold to big/medium turn barrels.

These types of players are very honest in the way they play hands. He won't barrel a hand worse than TT twice. If he checks back the turn, value bet the river.
