20NL 3 bet bluff. Should I continuation bet? 20NL 3 bet bluff. Should I continuation bet?

I don't want to make this player specific, but talk about it more as a general situation against an average player. Should I have put in a continuation bet here?

If I hit nothing, then I'd pretty much always throw in a continuation bet. If I hit a decent hand, the same story. But when I hit bottom pair, should I try and take it down with the c-bet, or check it down with no bets?

Poker is player specific. Period. It alters every range, every ev calculation, every decision you make. Example.

Villain has a foldto3bet of 70% on the button over a large # of hands. Should you c-bet? Ldo.

Villain has a foldto3bet of 0% and 4bet% of 20%. Guess what you should've done in this hand.

Villain has regular fold to 3bet stats, and has a) high fold to c-bet stats or b) low to c-bet stats. Again.

Generic? OK. Fish? Fold it. Yer gonna get called and confused. Reg-fish? C-raise bluff it. (In case you didn't do it, this is the board to do it, as your 3bet + c-raising range crushes his 3-betflating range (again, generic)). Solid reg? check/fold and pick a better spot to tangle.

But again, these are things that I may or may not do depending on what I've seen. So how can we give you advice in a vacuum?

Ok, I'll rephrase. This is the first hand I've played against this player, he's just sat down and I have no info at all. What would you do?

if u cbet 1/2 pot and hes folds more than 33% of the time its profit

and its impossbile to tel without game flow, reads, f23b, fold to double barell

have u been relentlessly 3 betting him, has he faced many 3bets by other players, its all important

first thing to do is not 3 bet light a random unknown oop
09-30-2010 , 09:43 AM
I'm 3betting smaller, and always always always cbetting this flop vs an unknown, primarily because we're oop and the flop missed almost all of villain's range.

I'd cbet, but if I didn't I'd check/call

Well that's a more constructive reply, thanks.

I don't think I'm currently c-betting enough in 3 bet pots.

I see the 3-bet as too big as well.

However, I wouldnt 3-bet an unknown.

Question though ... shouldnt we simply check/fold here against an unknown since we would probably have to do that on the turn anyway? Do you simply argue that the average villain will fold to more then 33% 3-bets and therefore a c-bet against an unknown is profitable?

And how can you suggest check/calling? I am new to 6-max ... so enlighten me plz

He wasn't actually an unknown, can't remember his stats now, but there was a lot of aggression and 3 betting pre, so I was just standing my ground.

I was just looking for a discussion on optimal play rather than exploitive play.

Would would you 3 bet to? $2.00 - 2.20?
09-30-2010 , 10:26 AM
I would not 3bet preflop. If I did, I would make it 3x not 4x.

That said, I cbet this flop if the guy is not a station or very aggro. We have 5 outs against any pair (except AA) and he's probably calling pf with all kinds of garbage. If he's tight, I consider barreling any K and maybe a Q.

If he's gonna float or raise light relatively often, I don't cbet.
