This was my second orbit at the table, so I had no reliable stats on either villian.

Poker Stars $0.05/$0.10 No Limit Hold'em - 6 players
The Official 2+2 Hand Converter Powered By DeucesCracked.com

BB: $10.60
UTG: $21.30
MP: $14.50
Hero (CO): $10.15
BTN: $10.20
SB: $6.50

Pre Flop: ($0.15) Hero is CO with K K
UTG raises to $0.20, MP calls $0.20, Hero raises to $0.80, 3 folds, UTG calls $0.60, MP calls $0.60

Flop: ($2.55) 5 J 5 (3 players)
UTG checks, MP checks, Hero bets $2.50, UTG folds, MP calls $2.50

Turn: ($7.55) A (2 players)
MP checks, Hero checks

River: ($7.55) 5 (2 players)
MP bets $3, Hero calls $3

I should have raised more preflop, but what do you think of my relative bet sizing for the flop?

My thought on the river was he didn't play it like he had an ace. I don't see any ace check calling my flop bet then just checking the turn when he hits (maybe a really slow played Ace-Jack). Additionally, my slowing down indicated I didn't have an ace, so I think there's a lot of hands he'd bet there, KJ, QJ, JT, QQ, maybe even TT.

Is this thinking correct? And if it is should I have pushed (I thought he wouldn't call a push without an ace, but now I'm thinking if the above is correct he wasn't folding his 5s full of jacks or whatever for another $3).

yeah betting more pre would've been better
very few hands are able to call on that flop, I think I'm betting smaller here
I like the turn and river play

I'm not sure why you 'should' have bet more pre-, but your flop sizing is good. I can't think of a hand that's calling for $1.75 that's not calling $2.50 so bet $2.50 since you're ahead of his range. Rest is fine.

3-betting 0.80 is less than pot size reraise, you want to get more money in with the best hand and also increases your chances of getting a heads up pot
As for betting smaller on the flop I was thinking villain might stick around with some medium or small pocket pair but might fold if you bet big

more pre
flop is good
bet turn for value against Jx
if u had bet turn now u could check behind or bet against calling stations. given turn check, river is snap call.

I probably bet turn as well not many Ax in his range except oop floats and AJ. River is close our hand is pretty under-repped, I feel like we can milk this guy for a small raise by zeebo theorem... but there probably isn't anything wrong with a flat call.

pf is ok but i usually raise a little more.with that flop i bet no more that 2/3 of pot.if villian holds an ace i believe his best line is 2 check the turn 2 u looking 2 either c/r or call and then donk out on the river.if u check back then i value own river.leading the turn makes the hand more diff.2 play imo.
