loldonkaments: that's an interesting spot, I'll be curious to hear what others think. I think he's not calling your flop c/r in order to fold the turn very often, even though the scare card hits. maybe check/shoving the turn is an option to capitalize on a little more fold equity? I know I'm folding any one pair hands to a check/shove there.

Don't c/r flop vs that player imo.

No point in betting less OTT becaue any bet will commit us anyway with FD+GUtshot
+ We want to maintain FE, which will decrease if we bet less

No point in betting so big OTT because our fold equity vs his range that folds remains the same whether we bet $12 or $17.
You just give up current EV by risking more now even if you pot commit yourself to calling.
3bet pre vs this guy.
Don't c/r the flop.
C/c twice or lead flop. I'm pretty sure I'm leading flop, 3betting if raised and 3barrelling if he flats unless he's super calling station, in which case I'll just play my equity.

Why is c/c better than c/r (I think I do like donking better than c/r or c/c though)? I kinda wanted all the money to go allin on flop and I thought vs. a bad aggro player, he'd be willing to get it in with hands like TPGK to "protect vs. the draws". I understand that we probably have no fold equity with a c/r and brl, but my intention was to have him overplay hands like A9 or 98 or 78. Or do we need reads to justify whether this player type will be willing to stack off ont he flop with these hands? :S

villain dependent i guess?

Owh . I thought his raise OTT was AI :$
@omgttilz and @EATITPAL, you both say:
don't c/r flop vs 'this guy' . Who exactly is this guy? A bad LAG? or ..?
And @Omgtiltz: You;'re saying 3bet pre, so you're assuming that (because of his kinda big gap between VPIP and PFR) he calls 3bets light? In which case we can stack him more easily if we both hit TP and sometimes we'll both miss but we have initiave and take the pot down with a cbet?
(and we'll obv his the FD like 10% which we can play to the fullest)

Leading flop/3betting is interesting
Lets say: We Donkbet 3,50(pot=3,75)> he raises to $12> we 3bet AI to $58 ?
uNL Quick Checkup Thread Quote

he is loose and bad, what better hands will he fold to a c/r?
uNL Quick Checkup Thread Quote
01-05-2011 , 12:53 PM
^ yep, definitely donking with the intention of getting it in because nut flush + 2 overs has awesome equity against even his stackoff range. Might just 3bet to something like $30 but probably inconsequential.

yeah, bet sizing was a huge mistake, I obviously have 0 fold equity vs. his 8x but he's giving me enough pot odds that I can just flat the minraise and fold if I blank out river.

@ Ligic, i rationalised my dumb play as trying to get all the money in on flop, not to fold out better.

yea but you do not want to be the one calling a shove if he 3bets flop, you want to bet so you can be the one 3betshoving the flop

Villian was playing 30/10/8 on ~20 hands:

$10.00 No Limit Hold'em - 6 players -

SB: $10.04
BB: $2.36
Hero (UTG): $11.25
MP: $14.12
CO: $3.45
BTN: $14.08

Pre Flop: ($0.15) Hero is UTG with K A
Hero raises to $0.40, 3 folds, SB calls $0.35, 1 fold

Flop: ($0.90) 8 A 2 (2 players)
SB bets $0.70, Hero raises to $1.97, SB calls $1.27

Turn: ($4.84) 8 (2 players)
SB bets $0.90, Hero raises to $3.50, SB calls $2.60

River: ($11.84) 3 (2 players)
SB bets $4.17, Hero calls $4.17

Final Pot: $20.18
SB shows A J
Hero shows K A
Hero wins $19.18
(Rake: $1.00)

Is this fine? Or should i raise flop a bit bigger (say 2,80) so that i can shove turn (for a 110% Bet, so a little overbet)

loldonk: If he's bad, most villain's way of overplaying their hand is to call down, not to 3bet flop. And you don't have fold equity on later streets cause he's bad.

waayoo: AKo: Nh.
And when I said "this guy" I just mean bad players who won't fold.
And obv, since he doesn't fold post, I'd assume he won't fold pre either, so he'll continue with a whole bunch of hands that we dominate by 3betting.
We do have some fold equity postflop, but the main reason for 3betting is obv cause we'll make top pair better kicker more often than he will.
I usually b/3bet small, instead of b/shove just cause it looks a lot stronger when you b/3b small, so you actually have more fold equity.

brn2sukout: Bet river.

SB stats:

vpip 83
pfr 37
cbet 75
3bet 13.5

through 85 hands.

this was a ridiculous table. i checked the lobby about 100 hands in, and the avg pot was around $14.

we played a bunch of hands together (table started 3 handed for a while). he expected me to cbet alot, and was folding to most of my cbets.

he once shoved the river (for about 2.5x pot) and showed bottom pair when i folded.

this was the first time he had led out on the turn this big. this made me think he either had a big hand, or, he was tired of me forcing him to fold all the time (sometimes i floated flops and bet big on the turn where he would fold). him showing that bottom pair (3s) on the bluff river shove made me think he was capable of doing this light.

he had made similiar turn bets, and folded to a shove (similiar in terms of bet size - stack size).

personally, this table was so loose, i think preflop is ok, but you can argue against it. flop could go either way i guess....

yeah kfs those kinds of villains force you to do some pretty high variance gambling if you have any kind of marginal holdings... just nit it up vs them and let them bluff off their stack when you have tptk
