If Randy Moss wanted to come to practice one day on a whim, would you tell him no because he's not committed to the group? My point was that playing is, in itself, practice. Making decisions in real time is what poker is about, and I'm assuming all serious players are already reviewing their HHs after sessions to find spots that need work. I'm not sure a group is needed for this process, but I could be wrong. If I'm a member of a group and I find myself in a tough spot on 3:00pm Tuesday, I don't want to have to wait until 5:00pm Wednesday to be able to discuss it. I don't think you give serious players enough credit for being motivated to meet up; OP wants people who like to work on their game. None of these players will join a group and then never contribute because they aren't told when they should be meeting, requiring scheduling would be redundant for this particular group. Also I'm not implying that 4 hours is too much or too little, just something that I think should be fluid. I'm interested in helping set up the group if I qualify/ can help, so I figure I might as well offer my 2 cents

THe point isn't that you cannot discuss hands until an exact meeting every tuesday or w/e, u can discuss it with any member if they are on or u could still post it here on 2+2. The point of the meetings is that you gather like 1-3 hh's per person, have an overall topic of the meeting(like 3betting or some video or something) and then devote time to each part of the meeting, like 5-10 min per hh's. The meetings can be about goalsetting and whatnot. Obviously lots of things about this group are going to be flexible but in order to get it serious, you need some firm rules and scheduling meetings itb to get it going.

The whole idea with the schedule / fixed meeting time is that it's easier both motivation-wise and more efficient.

Motivation - wise : I lack sufficient motivation to analyze HHs post session (not that I never do it, but don't do it enough) and to learn new strategy all the time. Committing to a schedule helps you commit to spending enough time studying things.

Efficiency - searching around the web, I've learned studies have shown small study groups are a more efficient way to learn.

Anyway, we have enough to get started with 6 now, plenty of interest. I'll try to sort through the skype contacts and see if we can get it going the following days. Thanks to everyone for their interest, I'll post an update when I know something for sure

Yeah I know you remember liking your name though I can only find 2 hands played against you at 10NL, maybe we played more at 20NL (that db is on another pc)

Hello,

I currently co-run a Skype study group for SH players looking to improve their game and increase their winrate. The group has been running for a while and as of 11/10/10 we have 72 members. The skill level varies and people are playing different limits. We have some struggling 5NL players but we also have winning 1000NL players.

If you join our group there are a few requirements:
  • Fill out our Google documents with basic information about you
  • Have a microphone
  • Take part in hand discussions
  • Take part in poker discussions
  • Take part in sweat sessions
  • Take part in recorded or review sessions
  • To not whine about bad beats / suckouts / downswings
  • To not make off topic conversations in our group
  • To respect other members and understand that some are not as experienced than you

In this group we prune members who are not active and we also remove any members who are abusive and do not try to help other members.

If you would like to be a part on this group please post in this thread using this form:

Why did a moderator merge the thread when they are completely separate groups?

Because when we allow two on the front page we allow 17 on the front page. This is gonna be a study group containment thread.

It can be a good idea to have a study group thread that'll always be on top, new ones created etc.

I already have more than 6 people interested, so will withhold applications for now to try and get it going.

Lol, it got stickied. Pretty awesome contribution to the forum OP. I'm hoping to join a study group once I've figured out how much spare time I will have after everything is settled for the start of uni. Then I know how much I can commit to it. Loving the idea though.

Could we have a more organized thread then? The original post in the thread has a link to each post of a group. So for example

6 Max Study Group

That will direct to my post in the thread. It should also probably be locked to avoid confusion if people are discussing different groups

Here is my information below. Please pm me regarding next steps in the group application process, I'd rather not release my name and Skype account info on the forum, especially since everything is searchable in Google.

Name: HH

Skype Username: (private)

Age: 22

Limits Played: 5NL, 10NL, 25NL

Winrate: 3BB/100 @ 5NL over 50k, 0.5BB/100 at 10NL over 100k, losing at 25NL

Hands Played Per Month: ~25k

Why you want to join our group: I love 6-max NLHE and take it very seriously as a time-consuming hobby. I'm not a solid winner but I ask thought provoking questions and I'm good at taking advice. I regularly discuss with winning 2p2 members via Skype, and I've had a few sessions with a reputable microstakes coach. I would be an active and contributing member to the group.

Thanks, I look forward to hearing about next steps.
