Trouble W/ Kings 25NL Trouble W/ Kings 25NL

Had a rough hand today in 25NL that was confusing and costly... Looking for some insight on where I went wrong.

Both players involved have 100bb stack.

Hero raises from LJ with KK to 2.5bb. Villain flats from the button. Flop comes J 6 3 with two spades. I bet half pot (roughly 2.5bb), villian calls. The turn comes a 2 of diamonds, a brick (so I thought). I wanted to put a price on spade draws and top pairs, so i bet 3/4 pot 7.5bb, villian shoves (roughly 10x the pot size).

I hadn't played with him much, but this bet was so polarizing. It took me about a minute, but I made the call and lost to 4 5 of clubs on a straight. Needless to say it was a rough moment. I thought from the way he played (limping a lot, check calling a lot), that maybe he just thought I was on a draw and wanted value from a top pair?

I feel it was a bad call, but in those situations with such enormous overbets, what do I do with those premium hands on seemingly dry boards? Consistently folding does not seem profitable, but I also have to be sure I have the best hand at such a high rate that I don't know what else to do but fold. Just looking for advice and welcoming constructive criticism. I only want to get better, and I feel like these spots have been coming up and I have been losing a lot on the hands where my premium pairs get cracked... Sorry for the diatribe, just looking for help.

A 10x pot shove is the nuts at 25nl. Nobody is doing this with top pair. Sometimes you'll see them do it with a strong draw, but you really need a read on someone and need to know if that's something they might do, and your average player will not. Without a specific read, you are looking at the nuts when you see this and you need to be folding. It doesnt happen often, and when it does you fold and then thank them because they made your decision easy and saved you the money you would have most likely lost on a river bet.

agreed only a special few are doing this with anything other than the goods. Consider it a troll bet, sigh/fold and move on

Edit: emphasise the call but its just a case of levelling yourself. You will see this bet type somewhat often enough if you play 25nl a lot. As BBQ mentioned send him a big thanks.

Very helpful thank you. And yes you're right, the fold is wayyyy less costly.

I will call flop check-raise-shoves in this situation and nearly always expect to see 45 of spades.

But you're right in that once the turn has come down and they're shoving it's always the nuts.

Probably still call though
